Forums Payment cards Barclaycard Avios Avios Plus retention offers?

  • 29 posts

I’m about to hit the annual target on my Avios Plus card, after which point paying £15pm to generate 1.5 rather than 1 avios per £1 seems a waste so I’m likely to downgrade after the voucher has triggered. I keep seeing retention offers for American Express mentioned on the forum but has anyone tried to get an Avios Plus retention offer? Is it worth me trying?

Thanks. That’s Amex – I’m referring to Barclaycard.

I’d doubt there would be any retention offers for a card that’s barely 3 months old.

2 years on and I’m now wondering the same. Does anyone if Barclaycard offer a retention if thinking of leaving?

I have never seen anything reported. Very many years ago Barclaycard gave me a £50 credit to keep a credit card account open but I seriously doubt that they would do it these days. I had trouble enough getting them to refund me the £20 they charged for a card that didn’t arrive for over 4 weeks when I first took it out.

I can’t imagine they would even know what you were talking about, given their general lack of knowledge about their own products, let alone have a retention policy in place!

Indeed, they seem to do their very best to dissuade customers in the first place, never mind have the remotest interest in retaining them.

I think you have 3 hopes, Cape of Good and Bob being the other two.

Barclays is the market leader in credit cards in the UK and adopts the same ‘retention policy’ as every other provider in the UK except Amex – take it or leave it. Amex has a minute and shrinking market share in the UK.
