Just had a long chat with BA as could not understand why I had been charged 9250 per leg NCL/LHR/GVA when this link suggests that it should be much less.
https://www.headforpoints.com/2020/04/06/how-do-you-book-flights-using-avios-points/
To be fair to the agent she checked this link and advised not up to date but also helpfully that BA have taken their Avios calculator away so it’s now see what crops up and what Avios you need.
Happy booking 🙂
That article is nearly 3 years old (and references even older pricing), there have been a few changes in the meantime, and lots of discussions about the vagaries of avios pricing!
If you haven’t seen Rob’s articles about the changes to long haul award prices late last year they are definitely worth a read.

Clearly but it was shown as a link in an email/post this year which lead me to query my BA points
For NCL-LHR there are a number of price points now. For example an off peak in Y gives:
9250 Avios + £ 0.50
8500 Avios + £ 4.50
7250 Avios + £ 9.00
4750 Avios + £ 17.50
3700 Avios + £ 32.50
2950 Avios + £ 42.50
The bolded one is the old band rate which you can choose.
If you price up NCL-LHR-GVA off peak you should see this
18500 Avios + £ 1.00
17000 Avios + £ 9.00
14500 Avios + £ 18.00
9500 Avios + £ 35.00
7400 Avios + £ 65.00
5900 Avios + £ 85.00

We’re on the 9,250 which we are happy with but just surprised that out of kilter with an email/article published in 2023!
It’s from 2020? Where was it published this year?

We have created this table as a one-stop reference – our own Head for Points British Airways tier point calculator. It is a sister resource to our ‘list of Avios redemption pricing for all British Airways routes’ – albeit we need to update this in light of the recent long haul changes.
So in a roundabout passive-agressive way, you’re complaining that a reference, which you acknowledge the site owner recognizes as requiring an update, needs updated?
On a related point I booked club returns to Barbados in March using new BA voucher (no availability with old). Pricing defaulted to highest Avios and I didn’t think to check and paid 180,000 Avios plus £900. I found it interesting that BA defaulted to highest Avios.
After checking the options I am ok with what I paid in the end as have tons of Avios though actually if you were not may not have been the best choice.
It says “More pricing options” directly below the default price as soon as you select your flights, then as soon as you click on that or “continue”, you get the entire list of avios/cash options above the breakdown of prices pp. It’s not really possible to miss it!
It needs updating and will be in the next fortnight. We’ve been struggling with how to present it, since the ‘high Avios’ option is the ‘best’ on long haul BUT the worse, usually, on short haul.
To make it even more complicated, it’s not necessarily the best on Long Haul. It may be with a 2for1 voucher, but I recall from a previous conversation that for Singapore it was the second highest that worked out best at 1p/Avios with a voucher.
I think it needs a 3D table, showing destination, booking class (and peak/off-peak) and the varying cash/Avios options 🙂
More seriously, it may help to group the destinations into redemption bands even though those no longer officially exist, and you could then have a table for each one showing the Avios and cash options for each cabin (peak and off-peak) with a list of corresponding destinations.
Maybe then highlight the best value one in each case at 1p/Avios – or perhaps two different colours showing the best with and without a 2for1 voucher.

Yes, and the point is the old band rate is still there and you could have chosen it if you wanted to. You are on a high avios rate because presumably you chose it from the pricing options which are presented to you when booking.
