Hi All
Quick question if someone can answer ?
Just flown BA Heathrow to Ljubljana return. Outbound was mid week in late June and I’ve been awarded 708 Avios. Return in July and also midweek but that’s given me 414 Avios.
Can anyone explain why the different amounts as i was expecting it would be the same ?
Thanks in advance.
We need a bit more information but basically Avios earning these days from flights is a combination of fare paid minus taxes multiplied by the status level you hold within BAEC.
Bear in mind that fares are not simply the outbound x 2. You could be on one fare bucket on the outbound and on a different fare bucket for the inbound.
Assuming you are a Blue BAEC member I calculate the fare as being £118 for the outbound leg and £69 for the inbound [708+6] & [414+6]. So a total of £187 excluding taxes and airport fees.. Is that anywhere near to what you paid?
In future go to the finnair website and enter your BA PNR and you will get an emailed e-ticket receipt with the breakdown of the fare which separates the APD and other airport taxes out so you can have a chance of calculating what Avios you will earn.
As above you will frequently get a different number of Avios when it’s based on the underlying fare paid for each sector as is now the norm and if you are on a distance based calculation (eg BAH) it will depend on the fare bucket for each leg.
AJA – thank you for the Finnair tip. I am impressed that you can check and generate email info for non-finnair flights on the Finnair website. Very helpful. Just checked one of my LON-WAW BA bookings and it works!
Surely what matters is total at the end correct not the individual split?
I did LHR – AMS – LCY the other weekend and was awarded 775 and 732 respectivly
For an LHR-BER-LHR it was 815 and 815
But for both flights the total awarded matched that based on my own calculations (using the fare breakdown during booking) plus what it said in MMB
Thanks AJA that makes sense. Yes only Blue (I don’t live in an area of the Uk serviced by BA so generally don’t fly enough per year with them to change the status). The calculation you have done looks broadly the correct amount if I assume some extra for taxes.
Thanks for clarifying. Most appreciated.
Thanks to JDB for your input too.
