Hi guys,
Have British Airways changed the avios system to a spend-based intstead of miles-flown just as Iberia did?
And if they didn’t, then if i want to claim Avios from a BA flight i did last month, would i get a different amount of Avios if i claim it in BAEC or Iberia Plus?
Thank you
BAEC hasn’t yet changed over to revenue-based earnings. It’s reportedly on the way, but perhaps they are having second thoughts.
The amount of Avios you’ll get will depend on the operating airline, booked airline, fare class and status with BAEC/Iberia Plus. Without knowing these details it’s impossible to say for certain.
It has been very messy for Iberia. It’s also true that, with flight prices so high at present, it may be cost BA more than planned.
The real issue though is the failed incentives. Those who pay the highest fares (and win with this system) are corporate customers who are forced to fly BA. You could give them zero Avios and they’d still have to fly BA.
It is the middle tier, businesses like HfP, who get flexibility who they fly with but don’t buy full flex seats that will lose from this system – and that’s a bad move for the airline.

I made 2corporate travels this year so 4 flights total (2 Buenos Aires-London) and 2 (London-Buenos Aires) in Business Class. This is my first time travelling so i didn’t know anything about Avios, i guess i should’ve research the matter before.
I claimed all the avios through BAEC (10k each flight approx), but i’m pretty sure now that if i claimed those avios through Iberia i would’ve got a lot more, because the price of the tickets on business it’s very expensive on BA.
Do you think my assumption is correct? if i need to travel again through BA this year should i claim those avios through Iberia instead? Or now it’s too late as i’m already Silver on BAEC and should i continue with them.
Thank you.

Hi, thanks for your answer.
I think you can see my answer below for those details, thank you.
UPDATE:
If i check on Iberia Website a one-way Buenos Aires-London Business Class will get you from 18 to 36k avios, i guess depending on the price or fare?
I got much less claiming the avios on BAEC, i guess that was my mistake. Never thought it was possible that i could get more AVIOS from a British Airways Flight claiming it through another company instead of their own reward system.
Here’s what i got on BAEC:
