Just picked a Avis car in Stellenbosch (South Africa). I do this twice a year so well used to the old process. I am Avis Preferred so I don’t have to fill out any forms etc. Well apart from having to wait 35 mins in a queue (normally it is quiet), got the keys and now you have to take your own photos (which I do anyway) but you go through a Whats App link to upload your photos for them (using my data!), took ages as the connection was slow and in bright sunlight it was difficult to see/focus. I gave up, and loaded the rest of the photos at my B&B. Next time I will go with a visual inspection and get them to make notes and of course take loads of photos! Is this new process just SA or worldwide now?
Car rental companies are weird! I think I’ve never had the exact same process in two different branches. This sounds like a very clunky solution so I doubt it’s something they’ve coordinated centrally 🙂
Avis at salta escorted me to the car, marked all the damage on the form and then took their own photos. He also made sure I knew about all the controls and dipped headlight rules. Very old school, I like it

AVIS rental picked up at CPT President’s Club counter. No waiting, generous upgrade, and friendly staff. Certainly no photos to upload. In fact, an employee would offer to drive the car from its parking bay to where the customer is waiting, check the car manually, load the luggage into the trunk, and return the trolley.
Our third time renting from AVIS CPT and always been delightful. Highly recommended.
