Forums Frequent flyer programs British Airways Executive Club BA 2 for 1 companion voucher

    Hi All
I have a 2 for 1 companion voucher with BA, wondering how to use it best. The voucher came with the free BA amex card so it seems I can only travel economy class. When looking at head for points website it states it would be better to use cash for flight instead, but what to do with the 2 for 1 voucher?

You can get value from the free voucher if you’re travelling when cash prices are very high. So the Caribbean at Xmas/New Year, the Med in August, and others. As always though, it depends on your personal circumstances.

Sadly, you can’t gift it to friends or older children as you have to travel on the booking.

If this was me, I would look at taking a friend who isn’t in a position to pay for much long haul travel to New York or Boston, out and back on shortish day flights for 50k avios plus £200 for 2 of you. You might have something similar in mind.

Also, don’t overlook the ‘do nothing’ option.
My view is that it is better not to spend money trying to force a trip that you wouldn’t be totally comfortable with.
What’s that HfP cliche? don’t let the tail wag the dog?

    Indubitably.

+1 to only using the voucher on something you actually want to do!

Personally, when I had an economy only voucher (before upgrading the credit card) I decided the best value I could get from it was using it on a short haul route I actually wanted to fly. So two people (plus bags) to Ljubljana and back for 14,500 Avios and £2 seemed like a decent deal and I’ve no regrets on that.

In my opinion Avios are best used on short haul economy or long haul business. But ultimately if they’re taking you somewhere you want to go at a price that’s a reasonable amount below the cash fare then it’s worth it.

Something that often gets overlooked on this London-centric site is that if you live in the far-flung corners of the UK it gets you a free flight to Heathrow! I live n Belfast and I’m flying to Singapore next January. I’m paying the same Avios as someone flying from Heathrow. Not absolutely sure if the taxes are the same but I think they’re the same too. So it might be more valuable than you thought.

LOL. An absolute classic English word!

Can you upgrade to a paid card and then upgrade the voucher?? Personally only ever use the AMEX 241 for long-haul Club/First – yes the taxes/charges are a fortune but you can still get a First seat for a PE cash cost.

    No you can’t.

    No you can’t.

Guessed not. But can you upgrade the card and then “earn” the upgraded voucher?? Really don’t know, but I think the more expensive cards give more availability as well as offering Club, etc.

Yes – but you need to time it right. Lots of discussion on here in the Amex articles and threads. Also I will warn you it is frowned on in certain quarters, lol.
