Maximise your Avios, air miles and hotel points

I have booked a return flight using my 241 BA voucher and Avios. It now seems that my companion cannot fly however I still plan to. There of no Avios seats available on or around the time we are flying.
    1) Can I call BA & switch to use my 241 (I’m the cardholder) as a solo flight & get cash & Avios refund?
    2) If she doesn’t show up, will I be able to fly & can I later request tax refund?

    Thanks for your feedback!

    Call 1 yes
    2 no

    Are we sure about 1.?

I thought they had to cancel, wait for the seats to be available again and rebook (with the risk of seats not coming back and you losing the chance to rebook)

Nope they can split the PNR and cancel the no show refunding the TFc’s

Then they can manually adjust the Avios

1 is a call but it’s not a cancel and rebook situation (as none of the flight details – date / time etc are being changed)

OP needs to ask for the PNR to be split and then to ask the agent cancel the booking for the other passenger.

On 2 the holder of the voucher can definitely fly without the companion but the companion isn’t supposed to be able to fly without the voucher holder.

If she no-shows on the day then you’ll get the proper taxes and airport fees back but not the avios. To get those her ticket needs to be cancelled more than 24 hours before the flight.
