Forums Frequent flyer programs British Airways Executive Club BA 43 777 with First cabin but not selling First

Just booked LHR to CPT in club, at 1am . Booked seats, plan shows 777 with a 2 row first, but with X showing unavailable to reserve. Check with cash not selling first. Will they keep those till check in in case needed. Or will they upgrade people to first seat with club service. Or are they keep in for Gold GL and above. Or will they open them to ordinary gold at sometime

I once had that on a 747 but could only pick the (First) seat upon check-in, 24 hours before hand. Interestingly it was also to Cape Town but 2018/2019 or so.

It was a F seat (bigger seat etc however pretty tired looking in an old Jumbo) however with Club World service.

I’ve had this too on that route. In my case, they opened up the First cabin to status passengers, about 3 hours before departure. I only found out I made the cut when I got to the airport. Club meals were served, but overall service was top notch.

This happens quite a lot – only 3 cabins are sold but the plane has an F cabin, which is used is if flight is very busy. It’s called being “flubbed” if you get moved into the F cabin – as in it’s F cabin, but with Club F & B. Happened to us a few years ago as well, seemingly because we hadn’t reserved seats and everyone else in CW had! The other pax in the F cabin were the captain’s wife and kids, lol.

Had same once CPT to LHR last flight out as SA closed for covid happy to be on any plane in any seat. However it was an old plane with ying yang business so substantial improvement. Fingers crossed, but I’m only basic gold ( gold for Life and nowadays only couple of flights a year) so likely more with higher status
