Hi,
Im flying back from San Francisco in April flying in economy. Im silver so I can choose my seats now.. I have a general rule when flying eco that I want to get the seats as far to the front as possible as to avoid being at the back gigantic queue at customs. However its not so much of an issue when arriving back home.
The SF flight to London is on an A380 and the upper deck is more appealing as its a smaller cabin and the front seats are x2 together without a third stranger on the same row. This suits me and my partner however I wouldnt want to disembark after the entire lower deck!
Does anyone have experience of what order BA carry it out?
I’d take the better seat on a 10 hour flight any day over saving a few minutes time getting to passport control.
You’ll likely land at the C gates so you’ll have a walk to the train to get to the A gates anyway and so even if the lower deck disembarks first you’re still going to be on the same tram.
Or you could use the C-A walking route which not many know about and ther isn’t a wait for the train but does take 15 – 20 mins or so to walk.
At LHR, the A380s are normally hooked up to two bridges. One for the upper deck, one for the lower. Both decks should be disembarking at the same time.
(Actually they use 3 air bridges, but the third bridge, at the front of the lower deck, is for the First cabin. For boarding anyway. I don’t know what happens at disembarkation.
I would guess that disembarcation would be a bit quicker from the upper deck, as there fewer seats.
I walk fast, and can get from the C gates to the main terminal in 10 minutes, which is often faster than waiting for the transit.
Upper deck economy seats are even worth paying to reserve if you don’t have status – no third stranger as you rightly say, a side locker by the window for your things which doubles as a drinks table, and a quieter cabin away from the engines on the upper deck.
