I’m traveling club Europe on Tuesday and have no status so expected to have to wait until 24 hours before the flight to choose a seat for free. I’ve checked this afternoon and it’s letting me choose now for free (I couldn’t yesterday). Check in isn’t open yet. Any ideas why it’s letting me choose for free early? There were about 7 left out of 32 (2 of which are exit and still require a £25 fee). I’m concerned about a Dubai flight in November where I want to sit with my companion and again will have to wait for 24 hours before, unless a weird rule such as what I’m experiencing for this European flight applies.
Obviously the fact you have to pay to choose a business class seat is hilarious…
It depends on the fare code of your ticket and that is what is allowing you to select seats on this particular flight.
If you don’t have a ticket in the right fare bucket (or status) then you’ll be paying unless it’s within 24 hours if the flight.
Unsure about the early seat selection. I am assuming you are BA Blue?
BA seating algorithms tend to try and seat people together, if they are on the same PNR, so it’s really not worth paying for seat selection in that case. If you’re in club suite (1-2-1 on the seat map) then there aren’t really any “bad seats” anyway and it’s basically impossible to conveniently converse with your travel companion, even if seated together in a middle pair.
