Forums Payment cards American Express BA Amex card 241

Hi apologies I’ve searched but can’t find the answer.

I have the BA Premium Amex card, I know they are removing the refund when you cancel and the extended the date before this comes in to February I believe. Can any one please confirm the date the new policy starts?

    Thanks.

Officially, the terms have stated since October that you will no longer receive a pro-rata refund on cancellation. However, HfP exclusively advises that pro-rata refunds will in fact continue until at least 29 February 2024. That of course relies upon Amex not changing its mind/doing the dirty and imposing the terms that are formally in force.

I think HfP advice is to call an Amex agent to confirm. That should provide some extra protection in the event Amex implementing the change without any warning being given.

According to @Rob the terms never actually specified previously that pro rata refunds were a thing.

That’s not correct; pro-rata refunds were previously expressly provided for in the terms. If that hadn’t been the case, Amex wouldn’t have needed to give notice of the change to terms.

It’s unheard of within the industry to have such a significant term waiver not notified to all.

That’s a totally unsatisfactory process unless you are taking the pro-rata refund on that call. If you were to check the position and then call a week later to cancel and ask for the refund then, if you were refused you will be bound by the terms, not the previous week’s call.

The terms are binding whereas the current non-application of terms, informally notified via one website, is a matter of policy so can be changed without notice.
