BA cancelled LCY flight and moved me to LHR – Can I cancel and get a refund??

    Booked the following BA return flight a few months ago. I have a short meeting close to London City Airport at 9am. Happy to return home from Heathrow as it was a lot cheaper, even with factoring in the cost of the Heathrow Express/Crossrail.

    Outbound: BHD-LCY 0645 5th October
    Inbound: LHR-BHD 1245 5th October

    On 16th September I received an email telling me my flight was cancelled and I’ve been moved onto the 0650 from BHD-LHR that morning. A little bit inconvenient as I now may miss the meeting and I’ll have to travel from Heathrow to London City Airport and back.

    Am I entitled to a full cash refund? I would even take a future travel voucher.

    Yes, since they cancelled your flight you are entitled to full refund. They would also very likely put you on a more convenient flight from LHR, however, better to take the refund when flight from LHR is much cheaper than original flight to/from LCY.

    BA has liked to claim all so-called London airports are the same but luckily they’re not. If they argue, not that you should have to, the fact that timing is already tight and can’t be extended by a diversion to Heathrow (and you’re not in a position to do any earlier option) is also more than reasonable as it falls into the category of their change having made it impossible for you to meet the purpose of your trip at that time.

    What a wonderful experience I just had with BA customer services. First time calling as a Gold member. Call answered and got speaking to a human in about 10 seconds. Flight cancelled no problem and full refund granted. All done in less than 2 minutes. I’m still in shock I think I need to lie down!
