Forums Frequent flyer programs British Airways Club British Airways changed to Finnair on reward flight

I’m due to fly to Malaga on a reward flight but recently got an email telling me that the return leg would be on FINNAIR.

The notification email says “if you do not wish to travel on this service, we have some options available to you, including changing to an alternative British Airways operated service”

My questions is, does this change allow me to cancel penalty free, and not pay £35 per person?

Yes. It should also give you the ability to change to any BA operated flight a few days either side of your planned date of travel and from any London airport, regardless of whether there’s award availability. It just needs an open seat in that cabin.

Is this to be via HEL? Maybe worth checking if they rebook you in “cash” ticket you might accrue some avios and TP from that. 🙂

It’s a direct flight to AGP and we genuinely can’t go anymore, wish I could change it and try to pick up some TP,

    Thanks 👍

Just wish I could get through to them now 🤦

I’ve had this for our LIS flights in September. The flight time is still about 2 hours 45 so I can’t think we’re going via HEL! Aren’t BA leasing some Finnair planes on some routes or did I imagine reading that?

I thought that it had to be a completely different flight number to count as a cancellation though? I’m quite happy, however, as after the change I was able to reserve extra leg room seats which weren’t available on the BA flight!

Yes BA have wet leased some BA planes and crew from AY.

Not sure about the refund being an option though, could just give them a call asking for clarity on what the options are,

This swap doesn’t count as a cancellation though.

I remember last year when IB operated some services under wet lease BA did allow refunds but they may have changed the policy.

@tjob81, have you tried changing or cancelling in MMB? If the latter, you will get a message about whether this is possible and if so what refund you would be entitled to.

I don’t think you are allowed to cancel but you can change the flight to a BA operated one.

We changed for a later flight under these circumstances, it was more expensive to book originally so the change of our original flight to a Finnair operated one did us a favour.

I stand corrected – you can’t get a refund but can move the flight +/- 2 days

If you a worried about Finnair don’t be. This happened with our outbound reward flight to Faro last year. Finnair flight was totally fine.

So I called and they say they WILL charge a canx fee, or I can change to a flight +/- 3 days.

I’ll try in MMB and see what it says, it’s a real shame we can’t go, was actually looking forward to trying FINNAIR,

I wonder, if I change flight does that start a new 24 hour cooling off period?

Thanks to all for your input.
