OH’s flight from LHR was cancelled yesterday (between bag drop and security- to Basel at 7:35am – plane appears to have had a last minute change of heart and went to Palermo instead, goodness why they schedule so many flights to Basel, cancellations seem v frequent)
I think it’s a clear compensation case (put on next flight and eventually left at 16:29 arriving over 8 hours late) but my question is a) should he include any reimbursement claim with this and b) what can be included
In relation to costs suffered he wasn’t allowed airside (T5) to lounges so I (wrong decision) picked him up and dropped off later so wondered whether a claim to mileage is worth a try. He also suffered “consequencial” costs in Switzerland being a new train ticket as booked went unused. Is it pointless to claim this from BA? (Think it will be under insurance excess) Not just “trying it on” and OH is irate – he’s talking about booking with SqueezyJet in future (horror)
What was the official cause of the cancellation – this will determine whether compensation is payable? There were a lot of storms over the weekend which were causing chaos with flight schedules.
I’m not sure why he wasn’t allowed to go airside if he had a valid boarding pass?
Yes train ticket will be for insurance if he can’t get a refund from the rail operator.
The Just Stop Oil jet as we now call it (as it’s already painted orange) probably has a better punctuality record!
Small amounts involved so you should claim compensation for cancellation £220 plus reimbursement of purchased breakfast and lunch at or near the airport.
Yeah they might come up with some excuse about exceptional circs meaning they were allowed to cancel at less than 14 days ahead without having to pay compensation – but claim anyway – Why do their work for them? Just claim.
Meanwhile look up expertflyer which for a short time should show the officially submitted cancellation reason and any other source you can find. But claim all promptly meanwhile. If they deny then their reason is not always true btw so make your own judgment only if they do but just in case prepare now.
Train is for insurance and that and your extra mileage, timewasting and inconvenience is why the flat rate compo exists.
Was it the BA752? If so that is eligible for compensation according to the thread over on FT HDLY is the code associated with the flight cancellation which is something to do with ground handling.
It was indeed BA752 (also cancelled on 27 and 28 June I notice). Many thanks to all
Update as requested. OH put all on one claim submission. After no communication whatsoever (it is just possible OH misspelt his email) and 10 days after putting in the claim got the £220 plus his consequential costs of Swiss train rebooking plus mileage for my driving to and from Heathrow extra times. He didn’t claim for any food as they had given voucher at airport and ate back at home anyway. Happy OH as he can now say his trekking holiday cost less and justify his next one. Thanks for help above.
No Communication of claim settlement is common. Recently put in 2 claims – decided to do Ec261 and new flight costs separately. Got informed within 48 hours on case 1 and paid within 72 hours. For the second one for replacement flights no communication whatsoever but had cash appear in bank 7 days after claim.
@Sudz74 that’s great that BA paid up. Relatively swiftly too. Am pleased for both of you. Thanks for reporting back.
