Hi
flying in a couple of weeks from HKG-LON in business class using a 2-4-1 , 2 of us…
out of interest if the flight is overbooked and they need either do downgrades or off loads, is the decision made by London as to who they are going to choose or is it done at HKG…
my friends have just done the same route last week and were downgraded at check in to WTP due to overbooking .. they used a 2-4-1 voucher also
concerned that if the flight is busy we might have problems as we have used points to pay and used a voucher… I’m a ba gold member, wife ba silver however these were gifted to us…
am I over worrying or ???
@hugor – yes, you are over worrying. Never say never, but if you have status you are most unlikely to be downgraded. It is decided in London by an algo with some human adjustment.
Although 25 were thrown off the Singapore flight last night on the way to the F1!
I’ve never been douwngraded (except by choice in my student days) in 44 years of flying so despite appearances it is very rare. At HKG both flights depart within 30 minutes so there is always a chance you can be accommodated on the other. Last winter our 788 was swapped out fir a 789 a d we git upgtaded to F seat (but still J service). If this worriesbyou try to avoid flying Fri-Mon, and tines with msjor trade fairs and other events.

Is that enough people for group legal action against BA?
Thanks all for info , we are flying on a Sunday on the first flight , currently operated by the club suite on the 777
@BJ – the second Hong Kong service stops in a few weeks
@Richie – why, oh why would anyone wish to bring a GLA for denied boarding? There’s a statutory compensation scheme, obligations on the carrier to transport you ASAP and BA is already liable for additional costs attributable to any delay. What more are you wanting or are you suggesting a court could do? A passenger joining such an action would also be liable for BA’s costs if they lost.
This is peak period for university students going from China/Asia to the UK. I don’t know how loads are like these days but you could check on expertflyer or ask on flyertalk.
It’s quite possible some people will be downgraded but hopefully being gold/silver will protect you. It’s even possible that people will be upgraded although can’t remember whether your flight has F
Did your friends who got downgraded have BA status?
When I was silver and flying between London and HK during these peak student travel periods I got upgraded several times including on redemptions (not 241) but this was before covid. Never upgraded when gold, never downgraded.

I wonder if that affected those with delayed connections? A friend wasn’t permitted to board BA11 even though it left two and a half hours late. Her delayed connection from Manchester meant she technically didn’t meet the MCT for the scheduled departure.

Yep BA did that to me once. Was flying MAN-LHR-LAS and my MAN-LHR was delayed. I arrived at flight connections to see an email that said my ticket to LAS had been cancelled, my boarding pass didn’t let me proceed to departures, and I’d been rerouted LGW-LAS the next day. After wrangling with the super helpful lady at flight connections for nearly an hour I was given boarding passes that sent me LHR-JFK that evening, taxi to a hotel near EWR and then an EWR-LAS at 7am the following morning.
When I finally got through to the T5 departure area I could see that my original LHR-LAS flight was delayed and I could have easily made the connection.
The taxi from JFK at midnight was bonkers. The guy was at the end of a 12 hour shift, lived near JFK and reaaaally didn’t want to take me to EWR, and had no GPS and couldnt find the hotel. Eventually arrived at the fleapit at around 1.30am, not daring to sleep on the bed, and was away at 5am for my 7am flight.
Flew back from Club suite HKG on a weekday recently on 11/9 family of 4 ( using two lots of 2-4-1 ) status only lowly bronze and blue. Flight was busy – huge queues at check in ( they opened desks just before 8pm ) didn’t hear anyone being downgraded so hopefully you’ll be fine. They directed me to quaantas lounge but I made a beeline for the pier which was very busy indeed!
Flight was late leaving and baggage took forever to come out at LHR. Good luck!
Thanks for all help , friends were bronze BA and BA silver equiv as had OW status
Our flight has 3 cabins , the flight 30-40 min later has 4 Cabin
Fingers crossed all goes ok , if they offer CX or QR in business would be well chuffed

Conformance (which is I suspect what scuppered your friend’s connection rather than the MCT) runs exclusively off scheduled times not actual. Even though for a domestic to international connection you don’t need to pass through security (which scans your boarding card inter alia for conformance) at T5, if your inbound flight can’t meet conformance, you will usually be offloaded automatically.

You aren’t going to be moved to CX or QR in J unless your flight is cancelled – and it would be those paying the highest fares first
