Forums Frequent flyer programs British Airways Executive Club BA Economy ticket classes for maximum tier points

OH is trying to retain BA Silver status on short haul economy returns LHR-AMS-LHR. Looking at her TP history, earnings range from 5-20 TP each way. How can she ensure that the ticket class she is buying will give her maximum tier points? Which are the max TP ticket classes? I believe that N and V are good…any others?

    Business class R STN-AMS 15th Dec £3.65 per TP.

The BA points calculator https://www.britishairways.com/travel/flight-calculator/public/en_gb gives you the numerous different ticket classes and TP for each. If you want to book anything other than the cheapest available you’ll need to call (ignoring the fully flexible tickets which are disproportionately expensive and not worth paying for just to get extra points).

As per BA (one way). But seriously? A cheap business class ticket earns 40 and may well cost less than the pricier economy fare classes!

    Economy lowest (Q, O, G)
    5

    Economy low (K, L, M, N, S, V)
    10

    Economy flexible (Y, B, H)
    20

Can she book any of the trips as BA Holidays for double TPs if she could use 5 nights’ hotel or car hire 🤷‍♀️.

Or fairly easy to do this in CE, I’ve just requalified for Silver (once the double TPs post) by doing a 7 sector trip on a BAH, plus a stand-alone domestic CE leg. Cost a bit over £1200 in total, though that was booking it a long time out.

Definitely club. I think you’d have to be Neil Armstrong to earn any status in economy.

How often is she flying? Can’t you get Silver with 50 flights? Even at the full 20 TPs for economy flex or whatever, that’s 30.

50 flights sounds a lot, but I think there are people who do commute by plane each day. JdeW’s OH might be a diamond or tulip merchant!

Many thanks to all. Very helpful

Both me and the mrs are really trying to increase our TP
Both travelled to dominican months ago but got the tickets via a companion voucher so got absolute fa that way.

Mrs booked her mum and dad a ticket on BA Hotline website using her exec number and paid using her Amex but again got o TP. Do you have to travel yourself to actually earn and TP?

To get tier points you need to be flying on a cash booking. To double up your tier points book a BA holiday including a minimum of 5 nights of hotel or car here.

Ahh ok, thanks. So with the above info only thing she could get would be the avios points for paying through Amex?
What about any avios points for the actual flight iself?

So i have just booked through Ba Hotline tickets to rome. I used 12900 Avios to get £78 discount and paid £143.18. Will we get any TP when we travel?

I’ve posted links to some useful articles on your standalone thread.

The person flying gets any avios and TPs associated with the flight. What do you mean by BA Hotline? Did you book award flights, or use avios to reduce the cash price? If the latter you should get avios/TPs, but be aware that using avios in this way is not very cost effective.

If you fly economy short haul, you won’t get many TPs, though, as per the original post.

I’m struggling to understand why someone who clearly doesn’t yet know much about how the game works is concerned about a few extra TP. Rome Economy (as the numbers above suggest) will earn 10 or 20 TP, but you’re highly unlikely to reach any useful status level from short haul economy flights.

It’s difficult to offer any useful advice without understanding why the question is being asked, or what objective is trying to be achieved.

Ba hotline is for BA staff i guess but not a staff ticket and anyone can use their own exec number and pay with their own card.
For my rome trip it was good as for 23kg checked baggage for cheaper then ecnomy basic.

I used avios to reduce the cash price, did NOT use the 241 voucher.
What is the best way to use the avios we have then to make it more effective plz?

@bm_999, the person flying earns the TP and avios. There’s no way to combine TP’s, but if your in-laws were added to your household account, then the avios they earned would be pooled into your household fund, for you to be able to use. That, of course, means they could also use your avios!

@bm_999, if you’re BA staff, or your partner is, surely you must know all this stuff better than us?!

But have a look at the links I posted, you’re asking for a lot of information which is readily accessible on here already.

So TP is gone and it wasnt anyone who has a exec number travelling

Even though the mrs added her exec number to the booking, does she not get any further avios points as she did not travel?

@bm_999 you may want to read a little before you ask question after question:

    – Only the person flying gets TPs and avios for the flight

    – If you book an avios flight you don’t get TPs or Avios

    – You do get them if you fly on a cash + avios ticket

    – If you have past flights where nobody was a BAEC member. Create an account for them and you can then claim the flights from the past 3 months

    bm_999 24 posts

thanks people for summing it all up.
I guess the thing to do is sign up for mum BAEC and dad BAEC, claim the flight as they are the ones that flew and add them to my household ac

Yes but you are pooling Avios – NOT TPs. TPs are individual. And the new Avios rules offer Avios based on cost (not miles flown) and are quite poor. That “free lunch” has passed.

ye, that part i get now. Just different to what the BA person said

THe new avios has that already started? is that for flights aswell? so if you buy a cheap ticket (or get a good deal) doesnt matter how far you are going?

    Ihar 344 posts

Yep. Check BA online / or the BA app and they will tell you what Avios you get. It’s much less than it used to be. If you want to collect Avios I’d strongly suggest BA AMEX/Barclays Avios or similar cards. Or buy them via subscription (then you definitely need an AMEX for 241 vouchers)

You can do great things with Avios, but drip-feeding is unlikely to get you enough to do anything worthwhile (IMHO)

Both me and the mrs each just have the normal free BA Amex, thinking about going to the next 1 up
