Forums Frequent flyer programs British Airways Club BA Emergency Exit on A320

Hello… for those with more miles that me on BA metal. On a A320 should I pick the Emergency Row 12 or 13? (I suppose row 12 does not recline?) In the past I have been shorthanded with BA because I selected Row 13 just for the plane to change (same A320, different configuration) and the Emergency Exits moved to rows 11 and 12!

You’re correct, the first row of the exit row on an A320 does not recline (nor does the row in front of it). I personally don’t really see the point of recline on shorthaul flights, so see both rows equally. I believe, most BA A320s have exit rows on row 11 & 12, but you are correct that some have them as row 12&13.

I’d just pick row 12, at least if the aircraft is sub-ed you have a greater chance of still landing on an exit row.

    Thank you @mzb

BA will contact you if the A320 becomes an A319 but not if they change the 11-12 to 12-13. That means you can end up on a very tight row having used your silver/gold privilege to reserve seats well in advance!

Row 12 is an exit row regardless of the A320 configuration. It then just becomes the matter of whether you care about the recline or not.

And as a side note, my experience is that BA will not contact you on any aircraft type change, you may be lucky to be contacted if your assigned seat changes.

@yonsal you must be unlucky (or I lucky) as in countless BA shorthaul flights I’ve never lost an exit row seat due to a 320 sub-type swap. I’d try not to worry about it.

If you don’t get your first choice seat *do* keep checking the seat map, particularly as the flight gets closer in. There are last minute cancellations and reschedulings, often I imagine by status holders that took the exit row seats.
