Just for info and apologies if this has been covered elsewhere.
If BA cancel your return leg and the options they offer by way of replacement flight/s are not attractive to you, you are eligible for a refund (for that return portion only). The part that BA do not make clear, is that if you do not contact them, you will not receive the refund. You must apply directly (by phone preferably) or you will receive nothing. Once the <back office team> have you <queued>, it will take seven to ten working days to flow through to whatever means was used to purchase the original flights.
Can you not request a refund online, via MMB? It’s usually part of the cancellation process.
Also – you might need to look at EU/UK261 re-routing rights if this happens to you again as you’re not obliged to accept what BA offers – you’re generally entitled to use another airline if you wish.
