Forums Frequent flyer programs British Airways Club BA HBO limits v Iberia

    Am I reading this correctly?

    Economy fare LHR-MAD
BA HBO allows TWO bags BOTH at 23 kgs?

Iberia HBO is only ONE item a at 10KG?

Just trying to get an afternoon flight to MAD from LHR and weighing up the pros and cons of Last BA flight at 16:25 or a later IB flight with just HBO.

The only reason IB puts a limit in weight to the bag is that they allow you to check your hand luggage for free. SO if everyone knew that and could put 23kg on it they will abuse it for sure.

BA will let you bring a small (laptop, hand bag, small backpack) and a medium (cabin luggage) bag. IB is the same. None will be weighting them (unless, as said, you try to check in any of them for free using IB).

If you have status the cheapest HBO IB fare allows you to add a checked in bag (only for those passengers with status, not the whole party). So that could be an option too if you want to bring a lot of stuff over.

IB seems a little light as the cabin bag itself would weigh 10KG!

10Kg is a very common limit for hand luggage.

Iberia allows you one cabin bag of no more than 10Kg and a “personal item” (they don’t seem to limit/define that weight).

Any idea how keen BA are on size of HBO? Mine is pushing it at 60cm tall.

If I book with AVIOS (Economy) what would be the baggage allowance on either carrier?

That doesn’t sound right for BA, where are you seeing that? Also with the permitted dimensions, you’d be hard pressed to fit in 23 kg. Hand baggage is normally one wheelie-type case and one big handbag/rucksack size bag.

Biggest dimension is 55 or 56 cm, IIRC, you’ll probably be ok if it fits in the overhead. Be aware BA are quite keen on trying to get pax to check hand luggage if the flight is busy. If you don’t have status, checked allowance on an avios booking will be 1 x 23kg on BA, I think this is the same on IB but don;t take my word for it!

Avios booking are the “normal” fare that includes 1 piece of luggage in Economy (plus one cabin piece plus a personal item).

If you have status you will be allowed to bring two bags.
