Forums Frequent flyer programs The British Airways Club BA limited time Tier Points offer

  • 89 posts

    Hey,

I got a leaflet in the post from AMEX for the following:

100 Tier Points when you spend £15,000
150 Tier Points when you spend £20,000
200 Tier Points when you spend £25,000

Spend by 21st May 2024 (not much time).

Not sure if I share the link they know I’ve shared since it has campaign id number. Not sure if that’s unique to me or not. Check your mail if you want to enroll in the promotion.

I also got this in the post. Wonder how they track the success of a useless expensive mailout campaign like this? Would “didn’t cancel card” or “starting spending more” be things they look out for?

I too received this in the post today. I thought it might have been to tempt me back as I had just downgraded to the free card this year, as I have no need to earn a voucher this year.

Obviously Amex/BA know that there really isn’t much value in spending more than £10k in a year on BAPP, and that many people delay triggering the voucher, so need something to tempt people to keep spending.

The tier points on offer for the spend required is not worthwhile, but to be fair to Amex, all the recent changes to BAPP have all been positive. Such as ability to use voucher solo, start outside the UK, and on Aer Lingus and IB, and now tier points, all whilst (hoping not to jinx), that fee fee has stayed the same, whilst Gold and Plat have increased.

Now, for them to allow 2x vouchers to be used in the same name for 3 people, or allow non-voucher holders to use the (like Barclaycard), would be welcome new benefits!

The current tier points offer isn’t worthwhile for me as it currently stands, however I am at the lower end of the income scale as far as the BAPP is concerned – I literally don’t have the disposable income to trigger the spending requirements.

However, if the requirement was changed so that £10,000 spend annually triggered the voucher, and then £5,000 increments after that triggered tier points, I’d find that useful. And I suspect that might be what the card moves to, because right now there isn’t really an incentive to spend more than £10k annually on the card.

Does anyone know if you can track the amount of spend you have towards the offer? I always see a spend x amount by zzz to get the voucher but nothing in my account for this. Due to timing/voucher/existing tier points it’s actually quite attractive to me to hit the 15k spend
