Forums Frequent flyer programs British Airways Executive Club BA not giving double tier points

  • Jayne M 3 posts

Any ideas to get BA to give us the promised double tier points for a BA holiday in May? I have called, emailed, logged a complaint, contacted via X all more than once. When speak to an agent they confirm we are entitled to the points but still nothing. It would take us to Silver which is why we paid to upgrade the flights in the first place. Anything else I should be trying? Is there any way of directly contacting whoever physically adds the points?

    Thanks

You say you “…paid to upgrade the flights…” did you do this after the original booking?

Yes which I suspect is why it’s not automatic but we were assured that the new flight ref was linked to the holiday (which it was). The agents have told us we are clearly entitled to the tier points and we keep being told to be patient but it’s now 3 months and we want to use our silver benefits.

    Who are you speaking to?

You need to call BA hols about this not the normal exec club line.

Have you received any of the double tier points, i.e. for the pre-upgraded booking?

I considered upgrading a BA hols flight last year, and spoke to an agent (BA Hols not exec club) about the double tier points issue at the time. They said that it would earn double tier points on the original cabin, but not the upgraded one (euro to club euro, not long haul, if that makes a difference?), so I didn’t bother.
The question is, which agent was, or wasn’t correct, and in either case is BA IT up to being able to differentiate?

@Jayne M – you may want to ask your question on Flyertalk if you’re still not getting any joy from BA. There’s a very long thread with all sorts of discussions about the Ts and Cs of BAH/double TP bookings.

Assuming it was a cash upgrade I can’t see that being true. Any flights bought with cash and upgraded with cash should earn the tier points of the upgraded cabin

Earning tier points is not quite the same as earning double tier points. A cash upgrade to a cash ticket will always earn TP for the upgraded cabin, but the Ts & Cs of the double tier point offer may be restricted to what you do at the time of booking. I haven’t crawled through the terms to know, just observing that there could be a difference.

If for example you do a cash upgrade at airport check in, all that money does directly to BA, BA Holidays are a separate entity and may not even know about it.

The upgrade at the airport is a good point @AndrewT although the T&Cs don’t make any reference to that.

I’m making the assumption that the OP called BAH to upgrade the flights ahead of the holiday. There’s nothing in the T&Cs stating “initial booking” or excluding upgrades.

We did a BA holiday to the Maldives and upgraded 3 of us from economy to club world at the airport (with cash) and got double tier points on the upgraded flights

Feels like one of those lovely BA issues that depend on, well, pot luck? Marvellous that the staff don’t know the answers to questions about their own offers.
