Forums Frequent flyer programs British Airways Club BA offloading of luggage question

  • 46 posts

Advice needed please. I’m flying from Inverness to Dubai return via London using a new 2-4-1 companion voucher. When I fly back from Dubai, I’d like to get off in London where I live, instead of having to take the LHR to Inverness flight 90 minutes after landing. My problem is that I’ll have luggage in the hold. How would I best be able to convince BA check in staff to only book my luggage through to offload in London and not all the way through to Inverness?

A bit late now, but by booking a long stop over in London on the way back, such as the day after arriving from Dubai.

As an alternative to booking a stopover amd skipping the final sector, you could have booked the itinerary you want (by phone, not online) without losing out on the APD saving by departing Inverness.
However, given the booking is now in place you’d have to pay the 35pp change fee if you asked BA to amend the final destination. May be worth it, rather than trying to get luggage back?

(I thought 2-4-1s had to start and end at the same airport? It’s certainly been mentioned in the past that is the situation.)

But anyway BA staff have instructions not to short check bags unless the next flight is the day following your arrival into LHR.

And something to bear in mind is if the Dubai – LHR flight gets cancelled BA can reroute you to INV via AMS on KL as INV is your ticketed destination.

And of course in arrival into LHR you can ask for your bags to be retrieved but that’s not always a quick process.

You don’t need to start and finish at the same airport on a 241, you can have a single or double open jaw within the mileage rules, but you do need to telephone to book. For this journey, it would have possible to end it in London or have a flight at a later date to somewhere you actually want to visit.
