Forums Frequent flyer programs British Airways Executive Club BA ‘retry’ error message after credit card has authorised – Singapore flight

  • 5 posts

Good Afternoon, I would be so grateful for some advice.

I have a 2-4-1 premium voucher and yesterday purchased 150K avios in order to get a club world flight to Singapore. I was on the BA website at midnight and managed to add 2 club world flights to my basket. All good. Quickly got to check out as didn’t want to hang around. BA is on my BA amex’s authorised list so the credit card transaction appeared to go through quite quickly….. and then up popped a BA error message to try again. Now 12.02am but again managed to get 2 club world flights into my basket and exactly the same thing happened. There is no pending transaction for either amount of taxes on my Amex so I’m assuming neither transaction got even close to finalising.

Having done some reading it seems that clearing my cookies may help? My IT skills are very limited to say the least. I’m going to have another go at midnight this evening but should I clear my cookies on a browser to see if this does help please? Is there anything else I can do? I realise I’m in a very busy time on a very popular flight and am now absolutely kicking myself for buying £2.5K worth of Avios that i may not be able to redeem on any of these flights (I’m planning a Big Birthday trip to Australia without the twentysomething kids 😊

Feeling a bit of a very much poorer nitwit because I may have messed up bigtime 😟

Thank you in advance for any advice

Don’t despair. You can do this!

    So I would
    – consider doing all this on the app. I’ve seen people have more success there.
    – try again tonight having cleared cookies or just use a new browser which you haven’t used BA in before (because BA tech is bad)
    – put your card details in manually rather than use the saved one on account (because sometimes I find the BA website has an old version of my amex card saved, with an out of date expiry or CVV number. When this occurs I see more payment issues until I can be bothered to update it)
    – if the BA amex card fails consider using another credit card. You’ll lose some avios on the transaction but will secure the flights you want.

If you have time tonight before you try I’d also:
    – call/chat amex to double check there is no issue in your account. Ask them if they can see any issue with the transactions
