Forums Frequent flyer programs British Airways Club BA Shopping – Does it actually work?

  • 12 posts

I agree with jj – 100% works for me and I follow similar procedure.
I use Google Chrome from PC, standard mode (not incognito), cookies accepted, no blockers.
Preparation – do the shopping, fill the basket. Personally I would close the browser to be on the safe side (probably not necessary but no harm….)
Log into Avios Shopping and go to the website, sign in on retailer account and process the basket.
My regulars are products – e.g. eBuyer, John Lewis, M&S, B&Q, Berghaus.. I don’t use for travel or services where the portal might muddy the waters (so haven’t tried e.g. parking).
Only glitch I had was with Halfords, but that was my own fault. I bought bike rack and some expensive kit on “click and collect”, but when I went to pick up we realised I had made a mistake on size of a bike. To process the change of product, the shop assistant cancelled the original order and gave me a new one. Some time later, Halfords cancelled the Avios (it was on a multiple of £ so about 3000), as technically the order was cancelled. I challenged with Avios customer support, whoe were sympathetic when I sent them the order history, receipts etc, but was rejected by Halfords. T&Cs say Avios not awarded if order is cancelled – I can’t argue with that, and I’m not complaining, but it was harsh given I did actually spend the money and received the goods!

Last September Booked a tour with Viator to take place in November. T&cs said avios awarded 90 days after end of tour. February no avios. Put in claim and response was more or less be patient!!
Still pending on estore. I find awarding is variable

Contrast that with the 15 successful payouts I’ve had from Viator on TCB in the last year, plus 2 on QC plus Viator’s own 5% rebate as well. I’ve not had to chase any of them. Estore is hopeless, go for the cash 🙂

Very hit and miss seems dependant on retailer as well as estore, I can get items from Lookfantastic awarded within a couple of days, the exact same items from Neom never track, both are on the Estore. I use the protocols listed above. Also given up on heathrow parking. I carry on using it on the basis that something is better than nothing.

Works so well for me that I’ve given up monitoring transactions.

I have more trouble with TCB, but I’ve worked out that their site can’t handle multiple click-throughs on one day. With hindsight, accounted for almost all my failures.

Not true, I’ve often done 4-5 in a day for ebay, IHG and others. IHG in particular, is generally tracking within an hour, clear cookies and then go back and book the next property. Not had any issues.

Just last week I clicked twice in 2 minutes, finished the second shopping before the first, and both TCB tracked fine.
I also don’t need to do all the crap that people here say they are doing for BA store to track.
Will reach £5k claimed in a couple of months with TCB, less than £200 declined (and most of these are hotel stays that were cancelled, so not real declines).

Similar story here… I have 4 Viator transactions still pending. All of these excursions took place between 130-140 days ago!
I have sorted of given up.

Same here, have around 95% success rate, only one has been clawed back which was from the Perfume Shop at Christmas (even then it wasn’t the entire amount, I assume sale items probably resulted in a lower rate in the T&C’s)

And then a hilton stay still pending, although reading the comments doesn’t look like I’m alone with Hilton, considering they weren’t on TCB, and I was going to book via Hilton website anyways, treating it as a bonus tbh if it lands

Had a Hilton one stay as pending despite the stay happening over 7 months ago, so I only use it as a last resort.

I register all my cards and if something pings via in store offers, it’s a bonus.

When folk use the BA Store, if they are shopping with a retailer who they have an account with, do they log into the account, or just check out as a guest? Wondering if logging into retailers account is one click to many ?

Thanks, that’s obviously not an issue then.

I don’t log in with most retailers eg Hotels.com as this lets the system know you’re a member and gives you a lower rate often buried in the terms…

Thanks for your input. I do have companies like hotels.com where I don’t have an account as I hardly ever use them. But general shopping like Boots, M&S, QVC, brandalley etc I do have accounts with so log in.

I should have more faith – just received notifications for all 4 transactions saying they will be awarded within 24 hours!

With hotels.com is quite silly not to login and miss 10% back on their own rewards. Those are guaranteed to work.

Well, there’s a surprise! Just received email that my 1500 Avios will be awarded in next 24 hrs @ Dave likes planes. Liked the bit at in the email that thanked me for my recent shop with Viator. I shopped with the, last September!

Are the Hotels.com rewards continuing as is – saw some articles from last year saying it had been gutted when moving to a common system with Expedia, but since then its still in place from what I see.

Ditto. Viator must have unclogged their pipes today – finally got 1500 avios from October.

Has anyone seen the new offer on the e-store which is spend £40 three times before 22nd April with new retailers? You then get a bonus 3,000 points. Seems decent.

I wonder if buying gift cards would work.

I’ve just started using the shopping portal again a week ago and this morning. I can see that the two transactions were tracked. The first has come through as avios but not at any enhanced rate. Is this an error on my part/ portal process, or do the multipliers get added later??

I’ve noticed over the last 2 weeks that the ‘speedy’ award retailers haven’t posted Avios yet. They all tracked overnight but nothing paid yet, it’s normally 72 hours. Anyone else?

It works for me all the time. Of course, the fine print does trip me up from time to time.
Some of the Avios will be posted very late. This normally involves a contract, such as car insurance, broadband, or phone contracts.
For example, my mum needed new broadband back in September. I signed up for one for her (Under her name, her bank account etc.) but via my own BA Shopping/BAEC account. The 3000 Avios only just got posted last week.

My main ones are from Trainline and Sainsbury. Yes, on top of my BAPP and nectar points, I get an extra 110 Avios (the amount varies from time to time; sometimes it is based on how much you spend, and sometimes it is a fixed amount) just by doing the Sainsbury shopping via BA Shopping.

Please keep in mind that, very likely, if you use it on your mobile, try to avoid it. If the BA Shopping app leads you to an app (e.g., going to the Trainline app rather than the Trainline website), it will not track your transaction.
So, use it on a computer instead.

Bit of a rubbish deal for those already using the app. Terms and conditions say this:

    • The offer is only available to new customers. A new customer is one who has never made a transaction with a “Collect online” or “Collect in-store” merchant via Shopping through British Airways (www.shopping.ba.com) or with a “Shopping online” or “Shopping in-store” merchant via the Avios app before. Customers who have made a previous transaction that was cancelled are ineligible.
