Hi, I’ve read all the articles and I think I’ve got it but I want to check before I make a big mistake.
I’m currently GOLD with tier point year end 8th Nov 2022 and card expiry 31 Dec 2022.
I won’t hit my 1125 tier points by 8th Nov so will drop to silver, but will earn 1160 points between Nov 9th and Dec 31st 2022. Does that mean I regain Gold until Nov 2024 (card expiry Dec 2024)?
6 flights all BA marketed between Nov 9th and Dec 31st
Am I right or have I screwed it up somewhere? Thanks for confirmation one way or the other.
You are correct as you will make gold in your current year which starts Nov 9th 2022 until Nov 2023. Then you will also have the following year until Nov 2024.
It sounds right to me. Other than I don’t think you’ll drop to silver as you will stay gold until 31 December by which time you will have requalified as gold.
The only caveat is your phrasing “BA marketed”. Which airlines’ actual metal will you be flying on?
Otherwise this seems very neat!

Thanks for the quick reply. 4 flights are on BA metal and 2 on AA but with BA flight numbers

On Nov 9th your Tier points will reset to 0.
You basically need:
– To earn 1125 TPs BEFORE 8th Nov to qualify for GOLD in 2022 and 2023
or
– Earn 1125 TPs before Dec 31st to qualify for Gold on 2023 and 2024
or
– Earn 1500 TPs between 9th Nov 2022 and 8th Nov 2023 o qualify for Gold as per usual rules
You CAN use the 2 weeks grace period so any TPs earned right after the 9th Nov (when your TPs will reset to zero) are back dated but you then need to have 1500 to become Gold (you cannot use grace period AND lower threshold, only one of the two)
Can I ask why a sweet spot exists between end of TP collection year and card expiry which gives an additional year?
I cannae get my head around it 🙂
thanks!
Because once you qualify, you get that status for the rest of your membership year and the whole of the next year. So the earlier you qualify, the longer you get at that level.
TP collection year might end, say, July 8th, but membership year would run to Aug 31st. So If you qualified on July 30th you would renew your status before it actually expires and keep it for pretty much 2 years.
@Northernlass – thanks for making this clearer 😀
