Hi all,
I hope everyone is well!
This is a bit of a strange one and probably not the right forum, but I was looking into salary bands for BA roles and a google search lead me to this forum.
Long story short, I’ve been trying for a while now to get a Head Office management role at BA and for the roles I’ve applied for, I’m confident I match or exceed the experience criteria, but each time it’s a no without an interview or any feedback (very frustrating!). I completely realise the competition is huge for BA roles, so it’s understandable. I’m in a well paid job presently and very happy and with my current employer but progression opportunities for senior leadership roles are limited and thus is halting my career hence my applications, plus I have a fondness for BA.
I have a feeling my salary expectations may be immediately disqualifying me from even getting an interview but BA don’t offer their salary banding v salary calculations/explanations on any website that I am aware of so I was hoping someone here knew of it and could post it below – to save me endless/pointless applications in future. I’ve tried contacting various people at BA via LinkedIn etc but I’m guessing everyone does that so they never respond.
I’m grateful for any help/suggestions. Thanks so much!
Best,
Nick
Glass Door is always a good place to start.
Flyertalk has an “Ask the staffer” forum, you may be best placed to ask about a specific band there 🙂
In general the airline industry pays less than other industries, but it can be role dependent of course.
Are you being rejected at other companies pre-interview? If yes, it suggests there is something wrong with your CV/covering letter.
I think you may find BA salaries are really not very competitive in most roles, bar perhaps pilots and specific types of engineers – basically people who take a long time to train – and the very top.
They are one of those companies that many people want to work for, so they don’t need to try very hard.
Personally I am glad I got out of that industry even though my current one is nowhere near as “sexy”!
They don’t get much at the top either.
BA PLC accounts (not the IAG ones) show Doyle got £1.4m last year. That’s relative peanuts in the corporate world – a partner in a City law firm would be getting well above that without any public scrutiny.
In total BA spent £1.745bn on wages (exc pensions and employer NI) for 37,401 people, so an average of £46,656 which is higher than I anticipated.
Given their lounges, cleaning and handling — and perhaps call centres? — are presumably all dealt with by contractors, I suppose that would fall under a different line item?

Yes, so that knocks out a few lower paid jobs, but there are still a lot of cabin crew in that 37k – must be the wages of legacy crew pushing it up.

Oopsie I’m wrong button (I reported).
Does he at least get a healthy chunk of RSUs? Not that they’ve grown much recently.
There are likely hundreds of people in tech companies in the UK on that sort of comp too.
This one https://careers.ba.com/job/london/ba-cityflyer-revenue-analyst/22348/69590688960
seems to be about whether or not the extra 8 seats on the BACF E190s are going to be good revenue earners or not.
None of this thread really surprises me tbh. Probably also explains the bad IT (and the fact they subcontract a lot out)!

Thanks for coming back to me. Yes, looking at GlassDoor, but it’s not that helpful for the recruitment process or salary bands. It just gives you approx numbers but again I don’t know if I believe it all..

Just found this on that site, thanks for the suggestion!

I’ll be honest, I’ve only been trying with BA. But giving it one last shot before the new year and i’ll start looking at other companies.
Does anyone have any experience with the recruitment team? Or contacts to understand their bandings/processes? Thanks again!
