I am planning to fly from the UK to EU destination using Avios, but there’s no reward availability for the return
So I was thinking I would just book with Avios for the outbound, and book the return leg flights with cash.
As the return leg is EU to UK, it is coming up as a € figure rather than £.
I have a BA voucher for a few hundred £ (for a cancelled service), can I use that for a € figure, and if so what exchange rate would be used?
Thanks in advance for any insight anyone can give on this matter.
You can see the amount online by putting the voucher number in – it won’t be used unless you confirm the booking
It will be the IATA exchange rate (actually there are several rates used by IATA, some of which are averages of recent days’ rates) which should be close to interbank.
If the euro drops against the pound during the course of tomorrow, you could wait until Tuesday and the IATA rate will probably be updated to give you more euros per pound, of course this runs the risk of the flight price going up.
In the past I used to know what time the rate updated and did use this to reduce the £ cost of certain flights when booking on Amex Travel by waiting a few days when I predicted the pound would rise, but I can’t remember the details any more.
