Forums Frequent flyer programs British Airways Executive Club BA0015/16 WiFi: Two WiFi packages required or one?

  • 41 posts

I’ve a trip to Australia planned for February on BA0015/16 with no layover planned in Singapore on either the outbound or inbound.

If I purchase a Wifi package as I get on the plane at LHR or SYD, will the package remain active for both legs of the journeys (to/from Singapore)? Or is each leg treated separately, requiring me to purchase another package as I depart Singapore each time?

I had a some experience of this last summer. My son wanted to pay for WiFi on our LHR-GCM flight; the flight stops for an hour at NAS then continues to GCM, which is another 90 minutes. When we got to NAS the WiFi stopped and a scowling teenager emerged from his Club Suite for the first time in 9 hours to make his displeasure known 😂.

Crew told him that when you pay for WiFi, you get it for the duration of THAT flight, and if the plane is then continuing elsewhere, it’s just tough, basically. We only had to contend with a couple of hours of outrage about being done out of what he’d paid for, but if the same thing happens on your flight you may have to pay again when you depart SIN!

    Thanks @NorthernLass – As I suspected!

… I don’t usually purchase WiFi, but slightly concerned that with the duration of the BA15/16 journeys and them both being in the same month, I’m probably going to run out of items of interest on the IFE at some point!

Me neither, I like being out of contact! Won’t you be asleep for some of it, at least?

My plan on the outbound is to remain awake as much as possible on the 13hr LHR –> SIN leg, and then sleep as much as possible on the SIN to SYD leg to try and make it feel like morning when we arrive in SYD at 7am with a full day ahead.

The challenge will be staying awake in a comfy club suite on a 13hr flight that departs LHR at 10PM! … still, there are worse problems to have!

I had this exact issue in November. The WiFi package didn’t carry over to the 2nd leg.

Cabin crew were apologetic but advised that the system resets and there’s nothing they can do. The in flight lead did offer to put in a complaint on my behalf, credit where due…

I followed up with a complaint after the flight requesting a refund as the service received wasn’t as sold, this eventually came through last week.

BA’s IFE isn’t exactly much cop and the wifi is not reliable. Wouldn’t you be better off financially and experience wise to download what you want on an iPad in advance? You will get to watch exactly what you want and not be subject to the vagaries of BA’s technology or when they switch wifi on and off. It will be a smaller screen but one of a vastly better quality.

The timings of the BA flight are rather unfortunate! I much prefer QR morning departure and late afternoon arrival in Sydney the next day rather than BA chucking you out at 6am two days (and nights) later.

Use my tried and tested solution. Take him for a walk down the back of the plane and tell him the wi-fi’s much better there!

He paid for it out of his own money and in this instance I think he was justified in being annoyed that it didn’t last for his whole journey when that’s effectively what you’re told when you purchase it!

I agree that if you are booked to destination and through no fault of your the plane makes a stop enroute you should be able to buy WiFi access for the entire journey. If BA’s system resets they should still give you credit for the second sector.

I can understand paying per leg if that is how it is clearly priced or indeed you break the journey in SIN or elsewhere as then you are booked on two flights. I mean BA doesn’t even give you longhaul TP per sector as really you get done if you book all the way to Sydney.

In fact I really don’t understand why you have to even pay for WiFi especially if travelling in Club or First. There should be at least a free 1 hour or more on a longhaul flight.
