Looks like BA switched aircraft for Winter 2025 from 777-200 to A380. Very frustrating as I was looking at Club Suites rather than the outdated CW seats on A380. Does anyone know if BA would agree to flight change/compensation for the flight change to the inferior business class product. Is it worth raising as a complaint or would it be a waste of time? I would genuinely have not wasted my Avios if I knew I would be getting the A380 CW Seats. Would rather save the Avios and go economy on A380.
Waste of time I’d think, if I was you and really don’t want to use the Avios I’d cancel as you suggest.
No they won’t agree to a switch to another flight (unless there was a cancellation or 4+ hr schedule change) and there would definitely be no compensation and asking would just waste your time.
If you don’t want to fly in club then as these are avios flights you can cancel and get a full refund less the admin fee.
This is common – happened to us in 2023 but it meant I got the chance to sit on the upper deck – if you can get one of the bulkhead window seats it’s actually better than CS in terms of personal space and privacy. You’re never guaranteed a particular aircraft so I don’t invest too much into it!
Thanks for the replies – forgot to add that this was a reward booking using 241 voucher. There is no availability on the dates of travel so but stuck now
I selected seats 53a,c,e on upper deck after reading the HFP article on best seats on a380.
I think the yin yang set up puts a lot of people of. Thankfully not going to have to stare across at a stranger.
It’s disappointing as it was a once in a lifetime thing I wanted to try out
The avios price is the same regardless of aircraft type.
But interesting thought, if there is an equipment swap from CS to CW the price of cash tickets might drop (for example when HKG was 2 daily, the flight with CS was priced somewhat higher than the flight with CW). When dynamic avios pricing starts, it might be possible to cancel and rebook for less in this scenario
Since the A380 swap on this route there is wide open availability for 19, 20, 21, 22 December 2025 that I can see on CW. Obviously due to larger aircraft they can make more seats available for reward bookings but these will probably be snapped up fairly quickly.
Is the CW seats really as bad as the reputation it gets?
Is the CW seats really as bad as the reputation it gets?
No.
It has its issues but then so does CS.
There really isn’t a perfect airline seat. Someone will always find an issue to complain about however minor.
BA Flyer IHG
I have seen countless videos on Youtube of people reviewing CS and CW seats and they almost all disagree with each other on the Pros and Cons.
Thank you for the advice.
Prob end up sticking with this booking.
By December it may well have changed again.
Then there’s the A380 reliability roulette…
