Good morning! I was supposed to be on BA8703 from EDI to LCY yesterday (04/08), which was cancelled. I ended up flying home from GLA-LHR, arriving about 4hrs later than originally scheduled.
Before submitting my compensation claim to BA, I wondered if anyone on here who has access to non-public info might be able to give me any information as to why the flight was cancelled?
Forewarned is forearmed, and all that. It ended up being a c.12hr travel day with two young kids, so I am quite keen on the compensation!

It actually doesn’t really assist or hinder your claim knowing/not knowing. If there was something really obvious, you might elect not to claim. BA will post a reason code (no longer publicly visible) with an Y/N indicator for compensation, but that determination frequently changes in either direction.
Make your claim, if accepted all good, if rejected you can decide whether the reason for rejection makes sense or not and decide how to proceed. If you keep the claim very simple, without telling BA how to suck eggs, you might get paid in days as an AI type process will deal with the claim. With a lot of verbiage, a bored human will eventually get to it…
I suspect it’s related to an aircraft being diverted to Pisa on Saturday and still being there, so presumably it’s broken
There’s very few reasons why you can’t claim – ATC problems, weather, JSO protesters being the obvious ones.

Haha, lhar! I think BA has a rather longer list than you.

Indeed. But if it’s something out of the airline’s control, it often affects more flights and is more publicly known about.
The only thing certain in this world is death and (airport) taxes. Oh, and surcharges 😁
