Bag Drop times at LHR T5

Can anyone help me unwind the actual rules of an early bag drop at LHR T5? I’ve got a CW flight to San Jose that departs at 3pm but have a business meeting that won’t be over until somewhere between 11am and 12pm on the same day. I can get to LHR around 12pm-12.30pm.

I assume that I am excluded from any twilight check-in on the night before as this is beyond the 1pm cut off time for an ‘early’ flight. Am I still allowed to drop off on the morning of the flight (6am?) so that I can at least deal with the baggage before I have to fight my way through security.

You can drop off your bag from the moment the airport opens that day, although if your concerned about queues 12.30pm will be fine. Although busy, T5 security hasn’t seen the scenes as at other airports or indeed T3.

I flew over easter at a similar time in the afternoon and had a text a few days before saying I could check in the night before If I wanted. Not sure how flexible they are if it is not expected to be as busy.

Any pointers if you are on a flight at 1 15pm and want to do twilight checking for 3 people ? eg its 15 mins past the rule – I have tweeted BA twice and not received an update yet ? PS if you need to leave your bags somewhere in T5 do not forget the Sofitel (its been a boon to me many a time) – they may hold a bag for you even if non resident Just a thought

13.00 appears to be hard wired and staff can’t over ride it unless a specific exception has been made for a specific day.

Remember as well that all passengers on the booking need to be there as you are actually checking in for the flight and not merely dropping your bags.

There is a commercial left luggage provider in each Terminal at LHR. Cost is something like £ 7 for upto 3 hours and £ 15 for 3 – 24
