As a BA Gold looking to book a long haul flight:
As I understand booking BA Economy Basic (Hand Baggage Only) will not get me any free bags.
What I am not clear on is if I book on AA via the AA website and select Basic Economy it states “ Footnote 3,3 If you’re an AAdvantage® status member or AAdvantage® credit cardholder, your bag benefit and boarding group applies if higher based on status. (Benefits may not apply on partner airlines.)”
I assume as a BA gold I won’t get any free checked bags either?
I would think you would be OK on AA-operated flights, whether booked via BA or AA. Take a look at the section on “Complimentary Bags” for OneWorld Emerald on AA’s web-site –
https://www.aa.com/i18n/travel-info/baggage/checked-baggage-policy.jsp
BA-operated flights are different – I think “Hand Baggage only” means exactly that, even for BA Golds.
