Easter next year husband and I would like to visit Bali & Lombok. I am trying to decide what flights would work best so I can book as soon as flights released.
We are avios rich, have Amex and Barclays vouchers and would like to keep the ££ cost down. In the past we have always booked with BA but following recent articles i thought we should explore other options.

We will have about 18 days for this trip.

For the long haul – cost for 2:
If we go BA guess it will have to be via Singapore using an Amex voucher 240,000 + £1200 – quite chunky
Could do Lon-SIN on BA at 120,000 +£600, SIN- Lombok (*need to explore this) and Bali – HK with avios on Cathay, HK to London £110,000+ £77. We have never been to HK so this would be interesting.

Lon – DPS on Ba.com with Qatar one way is pricing at 280,000 + £1094. Am i doing something wrong?

HEL-SIN I am struggling to find availability for this to compare cost.

Thoughts? would appreciate all the help.

Rob did an article on Finnair the other day, with a list of avios prices.

Have you looked at QR prices over on their website?

yes after reading that article i decided to have a look. But looking on ba.com redemptions, doesn’t look like Finnair fly to Indonesia and couldn’t find availability Helsinki to Singapore.

On QR website the only options I am finding for comparision are flexi – 320,000+ £548pp

With BA, KUL is a good option. Better availability than SIN, but you’ll have to put up with Airasia or MH for flights to Bali.
Or book SQ if you don’t mind a short layover.

If BA extend BKK flights (currently only winter schedule), that’s another option. Cathay flies fifth freedom to SIN.

Likely the standard redemptions are gone and you are shown the 2x (double avios) option.

We are doing this trip this July. LHR to SIN in BA CW using an Amex 241. We are spending a couple of days in Singapore and then flying SIN to DPS Bali with Scoot (one way fare is approx GBP 100 pp). Spending 5 days in Bali and then flying DPS to Lombok with Citilink (one way fare is approx GBP 50). Then Lombok to SIN on Scoot (one way approx GBP 60), a couple of nights in Singapore and then back to London with BA.

I thought those only showed on the QR site?

We looked and were put off by it being the tail end of the wet season so are currently thinking of the Philippines instead. It’s not super wet, but you could get caught out.

I have SIN outbound so far and waiting on next T-355 to do either KUL or SIN. There are heaps and heaps of short haul flights in the region so I plan to use cash.

Ah yes. Thought OP was checking on QR website.

Thank you. Is it possible I cannot see Qatar availability cause I don’t have Avios in Qatar Privilege? How many Avios should it be?
Does Qatar release seats at -360? Or is it more random? Problem is we really need to fly on a specific date. But Lon-Bali via Doha would be amazing.

We went in March Amsterdam to DPS via QR and it was 110000 plus £700 or so if I remember correctly. It was convenient direct to DPS.

We cam eback via Jakarta on Etihad cash fare.

BA/KUL should be good with 241 voucher. Airasia from Jakarta to DPS are frequent and convenient

KUL also has a direct flight to Lombok.

A leftfield (lower pricing?) option might be BCN-HKG (direct with Cathay) and onwards.

I’m flying into Singapore at the start of the summer holidays and out of Hong Kong at the end. I’m flying SIN to DPS with KLM, then DPS to HKG with Singapore Airlines.

It’s worth noting that the various fast boat options from Bali to Lombok only take a couple of hours, as an alternative to sitting in yet another airport with uninspiring lounge options (unless flying Skyteam).

Went to Bali this time last year. It’s changed a lot since I was there in 2010.

Not sure how adventurous you are but Lombok provides a great trek up Mt Ranjani Volcano crater. (4days/3nights) Well worth looking into.

By chance….Just started watching ‘Race Across the World’ on iPlayer and their final destination is Lombok.

As a family we did the Mount Rinjani climb. It was pretty hard work and we like to think of ourselves in OK condition! The trips all launch the attack on the summit to be there at dawn, so the final stretch is an early start. Take your own energy bars as you will probably have nothing to eat before you start.

@Cat – looking forward to another summer of travel posts from you, and 🤞🤞🤞 no hurricanes/floods/coups etc!

There seems to be an issue with QR at the moment, with availability not showing correctly on their website.

Have a look on the BA website, and departing from European airports. Brussels has some good prices at the moment. It worked out better overall for me than the Finnair option.

Thank you all for your replies. Have just spent some time on this.
Qatar website – I have points in Qatar but i still can’t get thng e system to show me availaibility and cost.
Looking at the BA website- considering the option via Brussels. Brussels to DPS £350 & 160,000 avios for 2.
HK to LON £155 plus 110,000 avios nd voucher.

Anyone has a suggested for a better option?

Also i am struggling to find flights from Bali/Lombok to Hong Kong both cash or avios in April.

Cathay fly non-stop DPS-HKG but I just think you are too early to find flights. Unlike Google Flights, Kayak lets you search up to a year in advance and you will see when schedules are released. Nowt direct in April yet.

We have booked Companion flights to KL for Easter next year and have booked flights from KL to Lombok and then from Denpasar to KL.
We have 15 days to spend on Lombok and Bali.
Any suggestions on where best to stay, how many days and what to do?
We have never been and so far all we know is we definitely want to visit Ubud, Gili (day trip or stay over?) and few days of relaxing at a nice resort with a beach.

Hi Jane – a gazillion options, of course!
Just to start you off, how about the Oberoi on Lombok?
Not only gorgeous, but it has its own boats to take you on daytrips to the
Gilis, meaning you get the best of the snorkelling/sights without having to stay over.

Lombok/Gili beaches far better than Bali in general.

I absolutely love Ubud and would stay a few days, personally, but then I love
the markets, places to eat and the temple dances. There is also an incredible
array of accommodation. Do feel free to ask any questions!

PS for smaller places, hiring a car with driver for a day is very common.

We are going in September to Bali.
Our plan is Seminyak, Ubud and Sanur. I will be following this thread with interest.

Rich, sorry about playoffs…but at least you have a visit to lovely Oxford to look forward to!

Again, if you have any questions…Your little one will of course be treated like an absolute deity!

    Thanks.
Oberoi -looks amazing and have now booked a cancellable reservation.
Michael – any recommendations for accommodation in Ubud? Restaurants we shouldn’t miss?
