Forums Payment cards American Express BAPP American Airlines through British Airways website – still 3x spend?

    Hi All,

Fairly new to all this – had a couple of questions that are probably fairly simple.

I’ve got a BAPP card. As far as I know that means 3x Avios points for spend on British Airways, or BaHolidays.

    1) Am I right in saying this is for only British Airways’ website directly? (So if I used a third party website through Skyscanner, I wouldn’t get the 3x Avios even if I used my BAPP card?)

    2) The flight I’m looking at is operated by American Airlines (but is listed on the British Airways’ website) – would this still count for 3x or only come up as 1.5x spend?

    Many thanks!

If you book the flight on the BA website, you will be billed by BA and get 3 Avios/£

If you book the same flight on the AA website, you will be billed by AA and get 1.5 Avios/£

And if you book on the BA website any servicing of that booking will have to be done via BA.

You can get AA’s PNR code from BA, and then do seat selection through the AA website.

Another reason for booking through BA is that a BA codeshare on AA metal booked with BA counts towards the number of BA flights you need to take each year for status. Book the same flight through AA and you will still get the tier points, but it won’t be a qualifying flight for status.
