Forums Payment cards American Express BAPP eligibility while stoozing another card

  • 355 posts

The eligibility checker shows that my chance of approval is 2/10 for the BAPP, and I think it might be related to my stoozing. I’ve got 95% utilisation in that other card, and the overall credit limit with Amex is £13K. My salary is £50K, which seems odd for a low chance of acceptance. I’ve also got no mortgage or rent commitments. Has anyone had similar experiences?

I’m thinking of bringing my utilisation down to about 50% for the stooze-ed card, and then hopefully applying when there’s another offer for the BAPP at the end or after summer.

Perhaps Amex are also hesitant because I’ve already got two CCs with them? I don’t use my Platinum Cashback Everyday as well, so might cancel that at the same time I bring my utilisation down.

Laat time I applied for the Amex PRGC I was turned down. First time ever, and I’ve been a customer for more than 10 years.

I had a balance of more than £5k with NatWest (£6500 CL) and £1500 with Sainsburys (£8000 CL). Both interest free and minimum payments. I think the high debt to credit limit ration at NatWest and only paying minimum payments on two cards would have been the deciding factors. I won’t be paying off the NatWest card until November, and will try again next year.

All my other cards are paid in full every month.

I’ve often held three Amex cards simultaneously. Currently have just two.

Its also possible that Amex will no longer tolerate me getting the PRGC and cancelling it after a year. I’ve done this 3 or 4 times.
