I’ve just seen that Barclays have a £175 account switch promotion until the end of the month, which includes the Premier account:
    https://www.barclays.co.uk/current-accounts/switch-offer/

Would this stack with the 25,000 Avios promotion for Barclays Avios Rewards?

I dont think it stacks, as you can only sign up for either the Avios rewards or the Blue rewards. To qualify for the £175 switch bonus, you need to sign up for the Blue rewards.

So i think it will be either the £175 with the Blue rewards or just the 25k Avios with the Avios Rewards.

To me (who admittedly has very little experience of points/bonus schemes and their Ts and Cs) it reads that you can get the switch cash bonus and the Avios bonus by opening a Premier account, signing up for Avios Rewards, then initiating the switch, in that order before 30 Nov.

This is an appealing prospect to me, so would also be interested in a definitive answer.

You aren’t eligible for the £175 bonus if you already had the Premier account before the application/switch under that offer. If you are an existing customer wanting the Avios offer you don’t get the new customer 25k Avios offer, but the lower existing customer offer. I don’t see how you are suggesting it’s possible for one person to stack the offers.

Just been reminded about this with an advert from Barclays on this very site:
Explore the world of Premium Banking.
And enjoy a £175 thank you when you switch.
Plus, collect a 25,000 joining bonus when you join Barclays Avios Rewards*.

If Barclays are advertising these together, then it would be difficult to argue that both don’t apply, as long as you join Barclays Avios Rewards then initiate the switch before the end of this month.

Please can you provide us with a link that says it’s possible to get both the £175 and 25,000 Avios.

I am also keen on this too but was holding out a bit and hoping if @Rob can shed any insights if any bigger avios bonus are on the horizon? I missed out last time due to holding the (basic) Barclays credit card.

    Barclaycard promotion

Definitely reads like you can get both. If you can’t, I’d argue this ad is pretty misleading for the average customer (me included). But I’m holding out for a higher Avios SUB.

I have seen the banner add on this page before, but it is caveated and once you click on it, you get a rather different message suggesting the two bonuses are mutually exclusive and electing one blocks you from the other. I don’t know the answer, but I wouldn’t be counting on getting both.

@JDB is right to say caveat emptor, as when a deal looks too good to be true it usually is!

However, here you could see how there is a case to be made that the two incentives are for separate items.

It is not unusual for banks to offer switching incentives, although £175 is relatively high, presumably because ‘switched’ accounts with direct debits etc. usually prove to be more ‘sticky’.

The ad above also highlights that there is a fee for joining their Avios Rewards programme and, on the basis that you’d assume Barclays make a margin on the Avios fee, you could also presume they might incentivise that sign-up separately.

Reading the above ad, I’d certainly be expecting to receive BOTH bonuses if I met the criteria and I’d be making a complaint if some weasley words buried deep in small print was used to try to wriggle out of such an obligation!

I’m expecting both incentives to be paid, they’re separate – it says clearly in the Ts&Cs (and offer verbiage elsehwere):

    (a) Download the Barclays App and use it to apply for and open a sole Barclays Bank Account and join Blue Rewards (£5 monthly membership fee applies), or
    (b) Download the Barclays App and use it to apply for and open a sole Premier Current Account (eligibility criteria applies)

Emphasis on the or; no requirement mentioned to join Barclays Blue Rewards if you open and switch to a Premier account. Therefore free to join Avios rewards and get that bonus as well if eligible. Nothing in the offer Ts&Cs saying otherwise.

That “or” is going to be the key word if Barclays don’t play ball.

I did the switch and joined Barclays premier with the paid avios monthly fee . Switch went through on thur , £175 offer posted in my account today

When checking avios earned on the Barclays app it’s showing 25k avios bonus reward (not credited yet as u have to wait 4 months but it’s showing)

I would say you get both

That’s a great result. I’m not sure they intend to give both but when they had the 100k promotion this time last year, they supposedly required a switch to get the 25k (on top of the 100k) but in fact just switching on Avios Rewards was sufficient, so the implementation is consistently favourably inconsistent with the terms.

Interesting post-script to this that I stumbled upon while double checking the account switch requirements – a note that Barclays have removed the monthly fee for the Premier bank account (see below). I know there were ways to avoid the fee but a blanket removal is likely better for most:

We’ve removed the Premier Banking fee

In 2022, we said that we’d introduce a £20 monthly fee for Premier Banking, which wouldn’t need to be paid if you met our eligibility criteria.

Since then, we’ve decided that it’s not the right time to introduce a fee for Premier. This means that if you’re unable to meet our eligibility criteria, there will no longer be an option to pay the fee and continue to enjoy Premier benefits. The fee is no longer part of your account terms and conditions, and we’ve updated our tariff to reflect this change.

Mrs S just switched to take advantage of the £175, she signed up through the app. On the day of the switch she is locked out of her account and is required to go into a branch for an ID check. This is despite using passport details in the app and everything going through successfully!

Oh dear, that’s despite filming the short video on the app during registration as well I assume?

This will be due either to a profile clash if she had any other existing Barclays product that doesn’t quite match which requires manual intervention to override or that, having passed initial checks sufficient to open the account, they haven’t been able to complete subsequent automated checks.

@JDB I get that there may be a requirement for due diligence, but the implementation is shambolic at best. A phone call, we’ve delayed the switch by a few days can you please nip into the branch. It’s a good job we still have a branch with all the closures because she doesn’t drive and relies on public transport or yours truly. The error message on the app didn’t mention an ID check, only that access was denied.

Just to follow this up, all correspondence from Barclays arrive in my wife’s maiden name even though the account application use her married name. We’ve been married for 17 years but did have a joint mortgage before we did so. She also has a Barclaycard in her married name and that didn’t trigger anything. Sorted fairly quickly in branch and the agent had no idea how it had happened.

A follow-up data point on this – it did double dip for me – hurrah!

I received the £175 promptly, once the account transfer (with 2 direct debits – thanks https://www.littledirectdebits.co.uk/ !) completed.

The 25,000 bonus Avios posted today, on the same day that my 5th monthly 1,500 Avios from the rewards subscription also credited.

The £175 pays for 14+ months of the 1,500 Avios for £12 sub, so that’s effectively 46k of free Avios. Then the only cost is the on-going obligation to buy 1,500 more per month at 0.8p each, which I’m more than OK doing. Plus there’s an extra 7,000 free annually too, if you don’t fancy the ‘upgrade’ voucher…

    All-in-all happy days 🙂

@Guernsey Globetrotter, may I ask if you did the switch etc. in this order?

    1. Opening a Premier account
    2. Signing up for Avios Rewards
    3. Initiating the switch.

There is another current switch bonus but I am not sure if it can be double-dip this time as last year. I was away last year in Nov 2023 so I was not able to make the most of the opportunity.

    Cheers.

@Vit Yes, that was the order of the process as far as I recall – good luck 🙂

@Guernsey Globetrotter Thank you. Finished 1 and 2 step now. Currently on 3. Will report back. 🙂

@Vit Were you able to get both the bonuses? Any suggestions on what to be careful about?

Good morning, I am have trawled through the Ts and Cs and I can only see an implied “condition” preventing one re-enrolling for Avios rewards and claiming the 25K joining bonus.

There is a 2 year restriction joining bonus for the Barclaycard (unsurprising):

    https://www.barclaycard.co.uk/content/dam/barclaycard/documents/personal/existing-customers/avios-reward-rules.pdf

“If you close your card account after you receive your Avios Welcome Bonus and then open
another Barclaycard Avios card account within 2 years after you closed the original account, you will not be
eligible for another Avios Welcome Bonus”

But I can’t find any such restriction for Barclays Premier Avios Account in the Ts and Cs itself:

    https://www.barclays.co.uk/content/dam/documents/premier/Barclays-Avios-Rewards-Terms-BRS-to-RDS-2023.pdf

There is this blurb on the landing page – https://www.barclays.co.uk/premier-banking/barclays-avios-rewards/#ref5:

“You’ll receive 25,000 Avios if you’re opening your **first** account with us and complete a full switch using the Current Account Switcher Service within three months”

“first” here implies “first ever and never again”.

The 175 switch offer is definitely available to both Premier and Blue new customers:

    https://www.barclays.co.uk/current-accounts/switch-offer/?campaign=BBA_Acquisition_MSM&chnnl=AFF&msrc=MSM&ad=CASS_Aggs_24Q3#termandconditions:

“Use the Current Account Switch Service (CASS) to switch your account to us and we’ll give you £175 to say thank you. Terms, conditions and eligibility requirements apply.

It’s only available to new customers who download the Barclays app1 and use it to either:

Open a sole Barclays Bank Account and join Blue Rewards (eligibility, conditions and a £5 monthly fee applies) or
Open a sole Premier Current Account (terms, conditions and eligibility requirements apply)”

Does anyone have experience with this?
