Forums Frequent flyer programs British Airways Club Barclays Upgrade vouchers – connecting flights on longhaul

I’ve been doing some comparison searches on what is the best value to use for long hall redemptions to the Caribbean between upgrade voucher and Amex 2-4-1.

Looks like the upgrade voucher asks for 10K extra avios for some reason. Is that correct in peoples experience? Seems strange.

More strange though is that when doing searches from Glasgow with an upgrade voucher, it doesn’t show availability when I start from Glasgow, but does when I start from London. I’ve checked with seatspy and there is available flights from Glasgow.

When I do the same search using the 2-4-1 the flight from Glasgow is included.

Does the upgrade voucher not include the connecting flight the way the 2-4-1 does?

Or do I maybe have to phone up to have it included?

Loads on here about this which could have saved you a lot of time, but in a nutshell, the Barclays voucher only gives you one payment option AND you have to call if you want a domestic connection included!

And the Barclays upgrade voucher charges the WT+ Avios amount whereas the Amex 241 (assuming you are flying solo) will charge you half the business Avios amount. Two different tariffs so prices won’t be the same.

If you have both vouchers I’d definitely suggest calling and using the Barclays one. The Amex 241 is more valuable as (1) you might wish to travel with a pal next time and (2) it opens up extra seats compared to a normal redemption and these can be a massive improvement particularly when travelling from E.g. Glasgow versus London. If you don’t believe me, do a search for Singapore business in September as an example using the Amex voucher and without.
