Looking for recommendations for a solid IHG hotel in Manhattan? Currently diamond elite & IC ambassador so ideally with a restaurant and use of free breakfast amenity for myself +1. Thanks!

This is really too vague a question.

    How do you define “best”?

Is it location or cost or chance to use upgrades?

If your interest is in ICs then there is a thread comparing and contrasting the two of them on the IHG board.

What research have you already done on the options?

Fair point. Not necessarily after super luxurious and square metres not an issue. For those hotels with points availability I’ve had a good look through Google reviews. Flexible on location so long as south of Central Park and on Manhattan. Many properties seem very dated with reviews ranging from room theft to legionaries disease in the water system (notes under door to not use taps etc.)

So ideally somewhere modern, secure and with a good free breakfast amenity to select at checkin. Many seem to have “restaurants” that turn out to be street level cafes within the same building, not offering your typical guest breakfast. TAI for any info.

The Even and Indigo hotels look interesting.

I’ve gone for 2 nights at the Indigo Downtown Wall Street then 2 nights at the Kimpton Theta. Paying with points purchased at 0.4p last year I made a saving of 30% vs. cash price, even accounting for the resort fees.

Just to come back to this – all in all we had a great stay at both properties. Rooms very modern and clean. At the Indigo, diamond breakfast was made to order in the lobby bar, very nice incl. coffee/tea. You have a slightly limited choice but the menu price equivalent is 38$ for two per day. At the Kimpton their restaurant is yet to open so we were given 50$ per day (2 pax) to spend at a very decent local diner one block away. Indigo staff very friendly, also got the welcome points and free drink each in their rooftop bar – location is what it is being in the FD. Kimpton reception staff very abrupt, overwhelmed with guests and no recognition whatsoever of diamond status – I had to enquire about breakfast etc. as nothing forthcoming. The door staff were incredibly rude to guests trying to leave luggage after check out, I couldn’t quite believe what we were hearing directed towards paying guests. Kimpton also provided welcome points and we enjoyed the daily social hour – the staff were great there. I also discovered the Kimpton secret password concept during my stay and got a souvenir mug! Kimpton location wonderful for Broadway. Would stay at both again and off-peak reward pricing was excellent. Both charged the resort fee as the IHG app booking process implied they would.

Rooms in the Even hotel midtown are compact and functional rather than luxurious. It’s right next to a police station and noisy 24/7 too.

I stayed in the EVEN in Nov last year. Whilst good locations, not a luxury brand. Previously stayed at the IC TS but I presume not worth it for redemption. Would choose a kimpton next time.
