Best process for Amex Plat supp holder, switching to Amex Plat main holder

Hello – and apologies I feel this has been answered before – but what’s best process to go from:

A) A Plat supplementary card holder, via my partner’s account
B) Upgrading my Amex Gold to Amex Plat, via this offer

I was spooked by something in the sign-up process about already having a supplementary card registered in my name. Should I get my supplementary card cancelled first (or changed to someone else’s name), and then go ahead with my Amex Gold to Plat application? Or will it not matter, if I have both a supplementary card and Amex Plat main card in my name?

And then following successful application, assume my partner could cancel their Amex Plat account, and I refer them a supplementary card for 5k-10k points? So basically switching the current situation. Interested in best process for smooth application / max Amex membership points / not to confuse any of our hotel/lounge membership numbers. Thanks !

Your current Supp status is not relevant. Likewise your OH doesn’t have to cancel before becoming your supp.

You’ve cut it fine for the 10k supp bonus, that ends on 20th Oct (then down to 5k again) and you only get it if you add the supp after receiving your card (not at the time of upgrading your gold). Sometimes Amex are super fast dispatching new cards, less so with the all metal platinum though. However as it’s an upgrade your online account likely switches sooner so you may be in luck.

Great thanks for advice. Bizarrely there is also this page that suggests the 10k offer lasts until 20th November (not October). So I might rely on that offer assuming the page still exists after 21st Oct…
