Forums Frequent flyer programs The British Airways Club Best use of cabin upgrade voucher

So I’ll preface this by saying I think this mostly applies solely to me due to my preferences and being based close to MAN.

So we mostly fly to the Middle East and Asia. Using the upgrade vouchers, it comes to 75k avios for 2 people flying one way in club world to JED with a stop in London. Add another ~7k for lap infant too.

Using Virgin miles, can fly direct on Saudia for 40k one way in J from LHR (and BHX?) with better hard product than club world. It may well be more from MAN/BHX. Add another ~5k for lap infant.

Is the voucher a little redundant here/better used elsewhere or am I missing something? Maybe the taxes as I haven’t done a dummy booking just yet as I’m pondering where to transfer my amex MR to.

Similar thing with flying to Asia. We flew 241 to Singapore for 242k + £660 in tax for 2 adults and an infant. But with Finnair its around 250k and taxes are lower (and have to position and add infant).

I have two cabin upgrade vouchers I can use but not entirely sure if I should use them for flying to Asia/Middle East. Short-haul J to Turkey perhaps?

    Any thoughts appreciated.

There best off used long haul but you do what feels best for you rather than trying to find the best redemption as hypothetically that could be Chad/Somalia. Its a shame it cant be used on Iberia as that alongside the companion voucher is crazy cheap. MAD-Doha 68k for 2x 😀

I used mine one way 50k £275 in J LHR-PVG which I was happy with.

If you’re thinking of Jeddah, then maybe worth outbound on BA, and inbound on Saudia.

With your upgrade voucher, it would be 75k (for 2) plus £90 per adult one way in J on BA. The points and cash on this route are lower on BA compared to other routes in the region. I flew to Riyadh using my voucher, and it was 42.5k avios plus £175, per person.

The taxes coming back from Saudi on Saudia are very low, I did this last year and it was 40k Virgin points plus about £26 in J.

If you did the whole journey on Saudia, it’s 80k plus about £275 per adult. Obviously this option saves your voucher for another occasion.

We used our last upgrade voucher to fly to Dubai in CW last December via LHR, then returned directly to MAN on Qatar from DOH. QR Economy was a bargain at 21.5K avios and £60 each!

    Thanks for the replies.

@aq.1988 Those taxes on Saudia do indeed look very good, I’m assuming they don’t have fuel surcharges?
It has made me think a little more because I have Krisflyer miles expiring in a few months and was going to use these on maybe Turkish Airlines to return back to the UK but I’m aware fuel surcharges will apply.

    @NorthernLass
That is a good rate and it is a pain in the backside that UK APD is so high and that BA charge atrocious surcharges. I think Virgin charge 12k one way economy DXB-MAN on AF/KLM? Guessing the charges will be a lot higher than £60 though!

You can do dummy bookings on VS flying club to check the cash element. You don’t even need to have an account to check.

IIRC, from DXB to the UK in Y is 12k plus a little more than £100 in cash on AF.
