Anyone know if I fly business LON-HEL with Finnair. Can I use the Helsinki lounge on arrival?
Not unless you have another oneworld flight departing HEL on the same day

I hope this is correct. I would expect you could only access the lounge if your onward flight was in business, or you had status. As it happens I have two younger sweepers probably coming in on business and out on PE to Helsinki (twice in short succession) soon, and if an inbound ticket in business gave them lounge access for the layover that would be great. All flights with Finnair.
My suspicion is this is wrong, as the lounge would presumably need to scan a boarding pass for a flight from another airport to confirm access rights?
Thought as much, airlines don’t seem to have many arrival lounges like in the past.

That was not a catch-all statement. To clarify, if you are not also flying out of HEL, there is no way you could access any lounge.
If you are subsequently flying out of HEL, then you may or may not be able to access a lounge depending on your onward flight, status, etc.
HEL mix arriving and departing passengers you walk past the lounge on way to passport control. Hence my question on “popping in” on arrival for a cheeky G+T!
I’m flying from Heathrow to Helsinki in business and then have a connecting domestic flight to Ivalo. There is no business class on the Ivalo flight so my onward ticket is economy. I’m guessing I therefore can’t access a lounge in Helsinki while in transit on the way out? But then when I repeat the journey to get home, I’ll arrive from Ivalo on an economy ticket but have an onward ticket to Heathrow in business, so I’m thinking in that direction I may have lounge access?

I’ve now read the Finnair published rules on the website and it says “a ticket” in business. Not a departing ticket. I don’t think it will work for an arriving passenger, as that seems contrary to how other lounges work, but why not give it a try?
For status passengers arriving in economy I can’t see how it would work at all, as it would be outside the OneWorld rules.
Thanks, I will indeed give it a try and see what happens! Unfortunately, I’m not flying until July so if anyone else in a similar situation ends up passing through Helsinki sooner, would be fascinated to hear their experience.

You will definitely have access on the way back, ahead of a business class flight. I think it is likely you will have access on the way out, but you will need to show the lounge agent the boarding pass for your first flight (as well as the 2nd flight). You get access if you are connecting (or self transferring) from a business class flight to an economy one on the same day. I think technically the Oneworld rules make that only for long haul on business class, but BA let you in after a Club Europe flight – I suspect Finnair will as well but I don’t know.
If you don’t have a departing flight that day you won’t be able to get in whatever cabin you’re flying in.
