I recently got the AMEX platinum and just hit the £6k spend for the 65k membership points.
I tend to travel mostly with Virgin Atlantic. Would you advise I go ahead and transfer my points there or would you leave it for now and perhaps transfer to any partner as and when I see deals etc?
Unless you are planning to cancel your card, do not move the points until you have a use for them, as the transfers are irreversible.
Only move them once you are ready to book and have availability for the route you want.
Thank you.
I did some digging and just found an article by HFP that said the same thing.
Yes that’s the general rule. Keep in Amex until you have a need.
As you say, the only other situation when this potentially does not apply is if there’s a special offer on eg a few weeks ago the Hilton exchange rate was boosted from 2 up to 2.6 per Amex point. This was a short term offer but a lot of people jumped in and converted.
