Forums Frequent flyer programs Virgin Flying Club Best way to use Companion voucher one-way from USA.

    Hi All.

I have a UK Virgin Flying club account and Credit card with 38,000 points and a companion voucher.

In November 2025 I need to take a 1 way flight from Orlando International back to LHR. 2 Adults and a child.

Is this all bookable through the US Call centre to save on the taxes? or will be be the same price as the UK call centre because I’m departing from the US?

Ive had a look at the calculator and have no clue how much it’s going to cost in points and taxes, is anyone able to find and work out the cost?

    Thanks in advance

Are you using the voucher as an upgrade or 2 for 1? Which cabin?

It’s quite easy to get pricing by doing a dummy booking then factoring in the value of the voucher.

You’re not going to be able to escape the surcharges, unfortunately, unless there’s a massive secret to this which has never been discussed on here!

If you can access SeatSpy, it shows Virgin award pricing fairly accurately.

PE is 22500+$457.80, UC is 47600+$1037 for one person, so using the voucher you can do 2 for 1 only if there are 2 seats available for points and you pay the second set of taxes, so it’ll cost you 22500+$915.60

You neeed to call Virgin to book it, there’s no dfference which call centre

Points pricing varies between peak and off-peak though.

Economy off-peak is 12,500 points plus £152.80 each, so OP’s point would stretch to that but would only be able to upgrade 2 of them with the voucher.

OP said November, so that’s “mostly” offpeak in 2025 but didn’t give the age of the child or the class they wanted 🙂 So irritating when people post questions with only minimal detail

I was thinking it might fall into autum half term with a child – looking at your handy link Nov 1st to 5th are peak!

    Hi All.

sorry I didn’t post all the info required.

We only want to fly economy class, Our son will be 10 at the time of flying and it will be on November 2nd we fly back which sounds like it will be peak. The voucher I just want to use for my husband to travel ‘free’. No class upgrades

In that case you can pay 2 x points and 3 x surcharges by using the voucher as a 241. You’ll only be using “half” the voucher though, the other half can be used at a later date if you want.

You’ll need to call Virgin to use the voucher.

You may need to be on the ball with booking as I imagine seats in half term will be in high demand.

You should have no problems getting economy seats but you’ll need 45k points for a peak date. 22.5k each for you and your son, then nothing for you husband

    Thank you. That makes sense.

It’s annoying because I have a BA Amex with a voucher I can use too but only have 13K points in my household account. To buy the extra 60K or so isn’t cost effective

Do you mean you returning on BA and the other 2 on Virgin?

Although it would be a poor use of the Amex voucher, it can be used to get 50 % off an avios ticket, so you’d only need 17,500 avios plus £75 ish.

Caveat – I think this applies to both types of Amex voucher but not 100% sure.

So I meant all returning on BA but nowhere near enough points.
