Forums Frequent flyer programs British Airways Executive Club Best World Traveller Plus seat across the BA fleets?

  • 389 posts

I am flying to Texas later this year and have a choice of aircraft – Houston (787-9) Austin (A350-1000) or Dallas (A380-800).

What’s the best World Traveller Plus seat option between these aircraft, taking into account comfort and AV quality – does the A350 have a bigger screen for example?

I’ve done some research and the 350 seems newest, followed by the 787 and lastly the A380 – is that a reasonable ranking?

Upstairs on an A380 is great.

Check the seat maps as they often list IFE screen size, seat pitch etc

But select a flight based on schedule and price not what plane type it is currently schedule to be as that can change.

If you can select any seat:
    – bulkhead is best for day flights as you don’t have anyone in front
    – last row is good for night flights. You can dine at the lounge, sit, put it all the way back and sleep the whole flight
    – window or aisle depends on your preference

BA has a couple of iterations of the PE seat. Don’t obsess too much with that as plane changes can happen anytime.

The A350 has the newer IFE, which works a *lot* better than the systems on the 787-8/-9 and A380. The 787-10 has the new system, as do some 777s. Was on a -200ER flying to Cincinnati recently with the older system (but new Club Suites) and then the flight home from Chicago, also on a -200ER, had new IFE but the old ying-yang Club World!

The A350 seats are slightly narrower IIRC – they have 8-abrest seating in a 9-Y cross section, whereas the 787s have 7-abrest in a slightly smaller 9-Y cross section.

I prefer the newer seats with the adjustable headrests, but never had an uncomfortable flight in PE on BA. I think the new seats are on the A350, 787-10, and some 777s.

Overall though – the upper deck on an A380 is just wonderful. Especially for an overnight flight as it’s so quiet, and IFE matters less as you’re trying to sleep. I love the window seats with the extra storage bin – also makes a good table for your stuff! They’re great if travelling as a couple.

In an ideal world the 787-8/-9 and A380 would get new IFE systems as they go through refit for the new Club Suites, but I feel the chance of that happening is slim unfortunately.

Which aircraft have a leg rest on the PE/WT+ seats? That would be a deciding factor for me. The leg rest used to be standard. It was dropped on (some of?) the 787s.
