Maximise your Avios, air miles and hotel points

Forums Frequent flyer programs The British Airways Club Big tier points trip in 3 weeks, but will lose it all due to Tier year end?

So im a bit late to the tier game and I now have an aim this year to try and Silver status (currently Blue). My tier points year ends 8th May and to date I have just a measly 30 tier points, BUT, on 1st May I’m flying standard class LHR to JFK, and flying back on 8th May (although I arrive back in London on morning of 9th). According to the booking (can’t seem to see the class of ticket) I’ll earn 55 tier points for each way, which with double tier points (as it was booked as a BA holiday) that should mean I get 220 tier points. However timing is terrible and it seems that I’ll earn and then lose all these points due to to tier year end date? Reading some other threads, am I correct in that it’s possible to request that my points from the NYC trip are allocated into the new tier year due to the close proximity to the 8th? BTW just in case it’s somehow relevant, I expect to also earn another 20 tier points on a work trip this month so that would take me to 50 points before the NYC.

So based on the above, is there a strategy to maximise/keep the points from this upcoming NYC trip to get to Silver or even bronze in the next few months?

No not possible for flights taken in your old year to be credited to your new one.

It’s possible the BA Hols bonus TPs will credit to your new year though.

Unfortunately, any TPs that hit your account before May 8th will be lost after that date. As noted above, your double TPs may well credit in next year’s membership year – this happened to me last summer, fortuitously.

Okay that’s a shame, if the double TP so hit my account after 8th that will at least give me a good start to this years points.

One other question tho, if I fly out on the 1st May, will I likely get that legs tier points credited right away or will the points for both outbound and inbound flights (all under under the same booking reference) get added add the same time?

Individual flights post 2-3 days after they’ve been flown.

The flight you take on the 8th will likely post on the 10th or 11th but won’t show any TPs but it will show you the avios you’ve earned on it.

The holiday bonus will post about a week or so after your return flight.
