Forums Hotel loyalty schemes IHG One Rewards Bonus points [counting for status?]

I have a 9 night stay coming up in an IC. This will flip me up to Diamond again.

I have been offered 5000 bonus points for an addition £19 per night so 45000 in total. I understand that these 45000 points would count toward my status in 2026 and so for the extra £171 this seems like a decent deal.

I cannot replicate this offer if I book a non refundable rate so the gulf between the non refundable rate and the flexible rate is now close to £350 and seem to get wider each day. I have already cancelled and rebooked twice. Normally I would book the non refundable rate but personal circumstances are such that I need the flexibility till at least a few day before the stay.

Do these points really count towards status? Am I missing something?

    Yes they count for status.

BUT they are only availabe with Best Flexible Rate bookings.

Bonus points in the special rates do contribute towards status.

And you can use them to redeem nights as well. You are getting £180 worth of redeemable points on top.

This will flip me up to Diamond again.

From the stay 8 nights get Diamond promo?

If this stay will get you Diamond the normal way (which implies you will have spent USD 12000 before taxes/fees), then that Diamond would be valid until end 2026 anyway so there is no benefit of buying more elite-qualifying points.

However £19 for 5000 points is a good price anyway even if they were not EQP.

Do you need flexibility to cancel the entire stay? If you will definitely be there for several nights in the middle but not sure of the start and end dates, you can split it into several prepaid and flexible rates and even rebook the later nights with points earned from earlier nights
