Hi all, wondering if my scenario has happened before and if I’m handling it correctly:
1. Opened an Amex Gold card roughly ~39 months ago, closed around 25 months ago.
2. Applied for a new Amex last week (Monday) JUST before the recent new user bonus came out (30k avios for £3k) & the new referral bonus too
3. Once I realised this, I closed my card but confirmed with the chat support that if I close my card within the 14 days (it was the 5th day) that I could reapply in a few weeks/months and receive the new user bonus. They confirmed that I was still eligible if I close my account and reopen it later.
My plan is to get referred in a weeks time to get the boosted bonus. Will I run into any issues?
@SCU21K – cancelling within the 14 days cooling off period doesn’t have the effect of voiding the contract for the purposes of SUB eligibility (which is determined by application/acceptance), so you won’t be eligible for a SUB on the Gold card (or other impacted cards) until 24 months after last week’s cancellation. You have been incorrectly advised by Amex.
