Forums Frequent flyer programs British Airways Executive Club Booked flights using 241 voucher with BAPP which I’m about to cancel

Hi all, I’m aware I don’t need to keep the BAPP to make the 241 booking but can use any AMEX. I’ve triggered the voucher and am planning to cancel the BAPP given the new spending targets.

Not thinking straight, I used the BAPP to make the booking using the voucher. Booking confirmation says I need to bring the card I used for payment. I can keep the card, which will still be in date as well, but it will long be cancelled by the time I fly. Questions that spring to mind:

    1) Should I cancel the booking in the 24 hour cooling off period and rebook on an AMEX I intend to keep? (nb. whether the flights go back into inventory is less of a concern for me in this case)

    2) If I cancel, do I have to do this via a call centre in order not to be charged the £35 fee (I thought online via MMB works fine, although e-ticket receipt says “Refunds under these circumstance [up to 24 hours from when you made the original booking] can only be requested by calling our contact centres.”

    3) I wasn’t going to keep the BAPP into November, particularly as the pro rata refund terms might change (apologies if I missed updates on this). Given my above mishap I’m now wondering, will the inbound flight have to be booked with the same credit card as the outbound in any case?

    Thanks in advance!

Do nothing. Just keep the by then invalid BA physical card. I doubt you will be required to show it at check in.

Edit You may want to only cancel the card once you’ve booked the return flight. How long before you need to do that?

Thanks, I wondered the same about the invalid physical card.
I was going to book the return in two weeks but initially planned to cancel the BAPP before 1st Nov because I had a suspicion that the pro rata refunds may be stopped at the same time as the new spending targets on the BAPP – overanalysing maybe?

Still no news on that but Rob posted this reply re pro-rate refunds ending to a comment on the 4 debit / credit card to keep for their benefits article:

“They WILL give pre-warning, I have an agreement with Amex that we will be told at least a few days in advance.”

So I think you are safe for the next two weeks.

Aha, thank you so much, I had done various forum searches but this comment under the article you mentioned I had not noticed. Thank you again, very helpful!
