Sorry to bother you. I would be grateful for a link to explain the lounge access policy when booking a redemption flight in business class on KLM via Virgin. We are flying Manchester to Bergen via Amsterdam, return. I can see the KLM lounge in Amsterdam is included but I am being offered very pricey options to add a Manchester lounge on the outward leg and Bergen on the return (£55.60 each). I would have thought a business class ticket would include these!
KLM is in the Skyteam alliance but Virgin is not. Hence I cannot find any relevant information. TIA.
VS is in Skyteam.
Sky team has a lounge finder tool on its website.
Not sure about Manchester, but flew Business using VA points on KLM BHX – AMS last summer.
Lounges were included, as was fast track security 👍🏼.
Have you been able to pay via the virgin website?… Have previously had to phone FC/CS for KLM redemptions.
I spent almost an hour on the phone this morning after trying for two days to book these flights online. As you say, the last hurdle was paying – it just didn’t work. The VA CS assistant I spoke to spent practically the whole time arguing with her computer, trying every way possible to book the flights. She said the KLM booking system is extremely difficult. When I tried to add special assistance for my mother, she said she had made the request but it was best to go to the KLM site to do that. I did and the request was there. That is when I saw they were asking for extra money to use the lounges at Manchester and Bergen.
A KLM business class boarding pass will get you in the lounges in Manchester and Bergen. It doesn’t matter whether you paid with money or miles.
Sometimes I’ve found that the Air France website and/or app works more smoothly, even for KLM-related things.
KLM deliberately obfuscate baggage and lounge pricing. Even when you are sky team elite plus they try and show you prices as if luggage and lounge is not included. You should be fine with a business class ticket unless it specifically says “no lounge”
Many thanks for the replies. I will ignore KLM’s demand for payment for lounge access at Manchester and Bergen and see what happens.
From experience Tim you do get the access, although I know exactly what you mean, I’ve a booking at the end of May stating the same on their website-lounge provided in Amsterdam but not at Birmingham or Turin unless you pay. It’s confusing and wrong.
