Booked reward flight on wrong BA account

Hi there,
I booked 2x outward Avios flights with the intention of then booking 2x return flights if they become available, and then claiming back half the balance with my 2-4-1 voucher.
Unfortunately, I’ve booked the outward flights on my BAEC account and the 2-4-1 voucher is attached to my partner’s account.
If there was extra availability for those outward flights I would simply have booked them again on her account and canceled mine… what options do I have – would canceling the fight immediately re-release the tickets? Would a call centre agent be able to help?

You need to use the 241 with the original outbound booking anyway – so assume you have you made the original booking with points and no 241 voucher? You cannot add a 241 retrospectively to a booking already made.

Ah, okay, that was my second mistake. I misunderstood the article advice that says book an outbound ticket ASAP and add the return leg later when it appears – how does this work in practice with a 2-4-1? Are you simply able to redeem a 2-4-1 on 2x single tickets and then add 2x return flights later?
Is there any chance a call centre agent can help here e.g. cancel and re-allocate the flights to another account or is it just not within their power to do so?
Yes you can use the 241 on a one-way outbound ticket, this is what is meant by that advice. You then either book the inbound separately and ask for 50% of the avios back, or call BA and ask them to add the inbound. All this is discussed at length in articles and threads on here!
How long ago did you book the outbound? If it was quite recently there’s a very good chance of the seats going back into the inventory if you cancel, and you’d only lose £35 pp or less depending on what you paid in surcharges.
BA won’t make the changes you’re asking about – they would only be able to cancel and rebook using the voucher, which you can do online anyway. Your mistake was not using the 241, if you had done that the booking would have been on the correct account anyway. You can’t apply the voucher retrospectively, so if you’re set on using it for this trip, your only option is to cancel and rebook.

Thank you, I booked it yesterday if that makes a difference to how likely it will re-appear? Any chance of it re-appearing immediately?
I just wondered if BA agents would have to ability to immediately grab and reserve a cancelled flight if it was done over the phone…
Very likely they will come back immediately, if you’ve booked near to T-355. If you’re hovering ready to re-book, it’ll be quicker to do it online than waiting to get through to BA, by which time someone else could theoretically grab the seats. What is the destination? Presumably the other Club seats went straight away as well?
Don’t think that affects whether they reappear but it means that you can cancel for free if within 24 hrs of booking. As for re-grabbing the seats, you can only ask.
Yes, forgot to add, if you cancel within 24 hours there’s no fee. But BA can charge you for doing something by phone that you could do online, think that’s about £15 pp.

It’s for October 2023 this year. Found through notification on SeatSpy – BA had just released these 2 CW tickets. Does that affect things?
It may well do. Have you just been checking on SeatSpy, or have you actually tried to make another booking with the 241 to see if it opens up any extra availability (if you want business class)? If you tell us where you’re trying to get to you might get more suggestions – availability can be very route dependent!
Also – if you’re travelling in October, how are you going to get home if no more reward seats open up?
It’s LHR – TYO I’ve booked.
Got notifications on SeatSpy and I’m (now) periodically checking manually with 2-4-1 voucher as I’ve just learned it can open up more availability.
The plan (hope) is that return BA flights would appear in due course, otherwise I’d look to book alternative reward flights.
